ok ok new to this site but My father and i have been working on a '66 mustang and theres this one problem thats got us just baffled!

Well we have this sound coming from the engine its a rattling noise that only occurs when its idleing and stops when its in park or a high idle. Weve tried mostly everything to try to make it stop but cannot find a cure for the noise! If anyone's ever had a problem with the noise plz help us out!

check the flywheel bolts, pulley bolts, and bracket bolts.

though you could help the readers by describing the noise in more detail

Thank you for your suggestions! We'll check that out as soon as possible.

About the noise (in detail): Its a metal on metal rattle kinda like something is loose inside of the engine. In a metaphor Like marbles inside of a tin can and they're flying around inside!! Thats the best i could do!

Just a thought. Check out the outer ring of the harmonic balancer. They've been known to separate and make a "jangling" noise at lower RPM's.

Is your oil low, or do you have stuck lifters? That can make a god-awful racket when the rocker arms start slapping around under the sheet metal valve covers or the lifters can make some nasty sounds deep in the block.

Have you used a stethoscope on the engine or held a piece of wood like a thick dowel up to your ear and put at at different places on the engine to attempt to pinpoint the exact location of the noise?

Were you ever able to find out what that noise was? I have a very similar problem with my 68 Mustang.
