I get promoted to Master Sergeant on Thursday.....(Air Force E-7). Sep 11 will actually be my 15 yr mark for active duty....five to go, then I'll retire! That time has gone fast....

I'm working on Accounting and Macroeconomics...I hate these two classes. Last two I knocked out were Aviation Law and Power Plant Accident Investigation...they were awesome. These two, not so much....

I'm about to get an 09 Buell Lightning XB12Ss (motorcycle)....its about 300 miles away from me, in Albuquerque, got to go see it, do the paperwork, then pick it up. Should be in the garage in 2 wks.

Going to Dallas next week....mini vacation.

Heads, cam, blah blah blah still sitting on the shelf in the garage...

I've had a rough idle in my GT that I haven't had a lot of luck tracking down. My next attempt was replacing the PIP, so I picked up a Napa MP716 stator today and decided to rebuild the distributor tonight. Bad part about working on an engine after driving home from work: it's HOT! Got a couple of minor burns I'm nursing now, just couldn't get a good grip on the distributor bolt..... The distributor came apart real easy; checked for play in the center shaft and there was none. Put the dizzy back together, set the timing back to 10* BTDC and went out for a test drive. Car is already running better, but I want to get it up to freeway speeds just to be sure. So off I drive to the nearest on-ramp. This is where things went wrong, and I'm not talking about the Mustang.

For those that don't know, I live in Los Angeles; right at the intersection of the 10 and 405 freeways. My usual freeway test drive is: hop on the 405, exit on to the 10, and take the next exit back to surface streets and home. A quick jaunt, but it's more than enough to test things out. So I get on to the 405, and suddenly traffic starts slowing down. At 11:00pm, traffic should at least be moving smoothly even here in LA. Nope, I forgot that there's construction going on at night when the fewest people are (theoretically) driving. The exit to the 10 freeway is blocked off. No problem, I'll bypass the 10 and take the next exit off the 405 and turn around. BAM! More traffic. I sit through that and find out the exit I want is ALSO closed. I begin to wonder what deity I annoyed today. The following exit is open, but all the cars that wanted to use the last two closed exits are using that one AND the next two. I'm not familiar with all these exits, so I skip ahead to the next one which I know has an on-ramp nearby that goes back in the other direction - back home. Exit is completely empty. I turn left from the light at the bottom of the ramp, turn the corner and $h!t!! MORE construction! I am livid at this point. To make it worse, the ramp I wanted I can't use! It's open, but the construction won't let me turn left. Fine. I keep going, figuring to turn around as soon as I can. No such luck, there aren't any places to turn around. The street runs parallel to the freeway, so I eventually give up on turning around and just look for the next on-ramp. I find it, take the corner and...IT'S CLOSED TOO! AAARRRGGGHH!!! Resigned, I keep going and cross over the freeway I've been trying to get on to for a while. Still no place to turn around. I am finally able to turn left, which takes me back over the freeway again - and I find myself on the Mulholland Drive bridge, the one that closed down the 405 for a weekend so half of the bridge could be torn down. I forget my frustration temporarily as I drive over the bridge, there's not much to see but it's kinda neat anyway. I keep driving down Mulholland Drive, figuring it will meet up with Sepulveda Blvd and get me headed back home.

Oh, I was so wrong.

I admit, I'm not familiar with this area of Los Angeles. After a bit of driving, I don't see Sepulveda Blvd so I pull over. Time to use the GPS in my phone to get me home....and realize I left my phone at home. Just a quick test drive, right? Sigh. I reach for my Thomas Guide (a really excellent and highly detailed local map) and find where I am. I see it intersects with Sepulveda a ways up (wrong, I misread the map - Mulholland Drive goes OVER Sepulveda), so I keep driving forward. And drive. AND drive. I get to the scenic part of Mulholland Drive, a nice winding, twisty road with a beautiful view of the night lights of LA. Foolishly, I keep going. The road heads upwards; I get worried when the road narrows and the yellow lines are so faded I can't see them anymore. Eventually, the road takes a sharp right and is now in better condition, so I figure I must be close now. Downhill I go, passing some really nice and expensive homes. I already knew something was wrong, but I was enjoying the nighttime drive. Now I know I've gone WAY too far. I pull over again and read the map VERY CAREFULLY this time. Obviously I've screwed up, and I'm not sure exactly where I am now. So I turn around to retrace my steps. Another fun drive back down Mulholland Drive, across the freeway, all the way back to that one on-ramp I couldn't turn left into. It was open (THANK GOD) and in about 10 minutes I was finally home.

The PIP was the problem. The Bassani mufflers are still nice and loud at WOT, but they're...more refined is all I can describe it as. It's quieter as well, runs nice and smooth now. This whole mess was about 20 miles round-trip, and I hardly made a dent in the gas gauge. Got one heck of a story out of the trip too, so it wasn't all that bad in the end.

Wow, I live off the 405 at Santa Monica and have accidentally left the house past 9pm before and scrambled to find a way home also. Hey at least we only have 2+ more years of construction left!

Sunday:
I notice the focus is low on power steering fluid... I figured i had a slow leak seeing that it was low 2 months ago as well. So i filled it up and all is well.
Monday:
Im driving down to md from NJ when i hear my power steering pump starting to whine. I pulled over and opened the hood. I had power steering fluid everywhere, Im talking all over my hood, exhaust manifold, and even fans.
I put the remaining fluid in and continue to drive down to my place. I stop and look on my phone to see what the problem could be. The pump appeared to be leak free and the lines looked fine. So i see this small sensor dripping fluid... I start looking around online and found the part "power steering pressure sending unit" Looks like they dont fail that often but what the hell...

I called 5 dealers and found one in the area that had it. So i drove up bought the part and seeing that i have no tools in this state i walked down the street to the auto store where i asked for a 3/4'' socket in 3/8'' drive to fit over the end of the sending unit. I picked up the socket and some fluid and headed home. Once i got to my apartment i opened the hood and started working (im already late for work) i try to slide the socket over the sending unit. When i did i hit the back of my hand on the exhaust manifold... OUCH. So i got the socket on only to realize they sold me a 1/2'' drive socket... I close the hood of the car and head over to lowes to buy the correct socket. I changed out the sending unit in their parking lot and off i went to work. Everything seems fine.
Tuesday:
Normal day no issues.
Wednesday:
On the way home from work i notice my charging light flicker... I dont think anything of it thought it might of been a glare. I decide to go grab some food so i turn the oposite way of my place off the exit. Around the turn i lose power steering. All i can think of is i burned the pump up when it went low on fluid. I shut the car down because i figured the belt would have jumped and i didnt want it over heating. I coasted in to a park and popped the hood. I notice the belt is still there so i went to spin the pump to see if it seized. The pump and belt are so hot that the belt sticks to my fingers. The pump spun fine... So i have 2 more burns on my hand. I wait till the car cools down and move the belt and start to spin the other pulleys. Everything is free... Then i look at the tensioner and realize... Hey there isnt even a pulley on there. I look around and see 2 10mm bolts holding it in place. No big deal.

I hop in the car and get the car going like 60 and cut the motor and coast a mile. I pull over and let it cool down and did it one more time which put me at my place. I call advanced auto they have one in stock... Problem is im 15 miles away and have no way of getting there... (i know no one in this state)

I go out side and see a guy that has a mustang, I dont know his name i just know ive talked cars with him before. I asked if he has a 10mm wrench. He did so i was able to get the tensioner off. I told him thanks and returned the wrench.

So i decide to get on my bike that i just brought down the previous week. Little did i know my g/fs brother had been using it in NJ and its broken and abused to hell. The chains skipping and its shifting all wrong. But i make it the 15 miles to the part store where i buy a 10mm wrench, the tensioner, a new belt, a beverage, and some hand cleaner. (there is melted belt everywhere.)

By this time its 9:00pm and im riding my bike home. I get home and put the new tensioner on by 10:00. I try till about 3:00am to get the belt on by my self with the one close sized wrench i have. During which it slips off the tensioner and i hit my Blistered burn on the back of my hand. It tares it open and my hands are in to much pain to continue. I go to sleep and call around in the morning. I just needed one person to help me slip the belt around the idler pulley.... Sears across the street wanted $80.... I had already routed the belt. I found a gas station to help me out for $20 i call triple A and have my car towed there. The guy held the wrench and i put on the belt...

I seriously almost called you... I really hate bothering people... It killed me that i couldnt fix it alone... If i had ramps i probably could of done it from the under side...

More pics later.

Adam, that was some story.

I had a "Man Cave" incident I'll come clean about.

So I was hanging curtains in the man cave. Couldn't get any anchors around the window sill to bite so I decided to use the aluminum window frame. Had to drill pilot holes in the aluminum. Put a small bit on the drill and started drilling. I'm waiting for the bit to go through for awhile. So I decided to run a finger in the back of where I'm drilling to see if its getting hot or I'm making any progress. Just as I run my fingers to the back the drill bit goes through the aluminum. It also goes through my finger. I actually felt the drill bit spinning inside my finger. Worst part was the aluminum.

My wife got it cleaned up the best we could, got it to stop bleeding. In the morning if it looks bad I'll go to the MedExpress for stitches. In the morning it looked pretty bad so I went to the MedExpress. They took an x-ray. Doctor says we will know in a few minutes if you hit the bone and you're going into surgery. As luck would have it I just missed the bone and nerves. No stitches but I had to get a Tetnis shot (painful). A few days later some aluminum came out of the cut. It's almost healed now.

Here are the pics right after.
Went in here.

Just about came all the way through here. The bit was hitting the back of the nail.

Just got the car back

So my handbrake cable broke a few months ago and I took the car into a mechanic to install a new one

Get the car back this morning, pay the mechanic, get in my car, go to put on my seatbelt, and..

Yes, that is correct, it is UNDER the center console.

View attachment 175134

At this point I need to get to work anyways so I don't even bother telling the guy.

I guess this is just another reason I need to learn how to do all this quick repair and modding myself. Time to go find a guide on how to remove the center console.
