Hello,

I just discovered the ECU in my '89 is A9M. According to a list I found
online this is for automatics, however the car has a manual
transmission. How will this affect the tune and drivability? Is there a
way to fool the A9M to act like a manual ECU? What's the difference?

Thank you,
Eric

Setup:
ECU: EEC-IV A9M
Block: 1993 5.0
Transmission: T56 manual
internals: Probe forged, 10.1:1
intake: Trick Flow TFS-51511001
cam: Trick Flow TFS-51402000
lifters: Ford Racing
pushrods: Trick Flow TFS-21406700
heads: Trick Flow TFS-51400004
rockers: Trick Flow TFS-51400510 1.6:1
MAF: 75mm 30lb tune
Throttle Body: BBK 75mm
Injectors: 30lb (red)

The auto puter works fine in an AOD car.

To exactly mimic an A9L, you'd need an A9L or a chip with an A9L tune (or an RT).

The auto puter should have a little more off-idle timing advance (to help a converter), amongst a couple other small differences.

The problem I had with mine after the AOD/T-5 swap was that the car would intermittantly die coming to a stop with the clutch in. The A9L has a function that holds the idle up between shifts that the A9M lacks. The chip with the A9L program fixed the problem.
