I have a 96 GT and I'm considering getting either a high flow H or X pipe. The thing is I don't want the off road versions because my car is a daily driver and I still have to take it to have the emissions test done every year. The question is, if I buy a high flow catted X or H pipe about how much increase of power will I see and about how much louder will it be? I know considering that it's not an o/r it won't be quite as loud as an o/r. Right now I'm running Flowmaster 1 chambers. Any advice or help would much be appreciated.

The X will provide more power increase than an H. Both have different sound characteristics. X is more exotic, like a race car, while the H is more thunder as in a musclecar. You won't see all that much increased HP but SOTP (seat of the pants) power/performance increase and yes, it will get somewhat louder than stock with the high flow cats but not quite as loud as non-catted midpipes. Usually when you're running Flowmasters, you're tending to lean towards the Musclecar tone which the H pipes lean more towards.

I have been told that H pipes are also better in low end torque and for automatics.

Why not do what I did and get an SLP catted pipe and the optional off road pipes. You can bolt the cats in and out.

The H pipe is going to sound better down low and feel better down low. The X is going to perform and sound better up high and at WOT.

The X is minimially (sp) better at hi revs (over 5K). The H is louder. Cats really don't reduce the sound THAT much.

Yes they do reduce the sound a lot. It was night and day when I added high flow cats to my bassani off road X.
