? About DSS Blocks

Are their level 10/20 blocks just stock Ford blocks that they've gone through really good and made improvements to or are they some type of aftermarket block. And I'm not talking about the DART or BOSS options they offer. I want to build my first engine and I'm looking to do a 331 and I figure once I blow it up I'll have Rick91 or somebody build me a serious DART one, but for my first build I'd like a short block that can handle at least 550 or so.

Good luck getting ahold of them I called them three times to get a block and they always say they are going to call back and never do. I know that there engines are very good though.

There engines are good but a stock block with sugar on top all in all is still a stock block in the end. If you want 550 better save your money and buy a aftermarket block so you don't waste it later

there products are very nice but in the end you can do what ya want but it's still stock in the end

thanks for the replies guys. For my first build I was thinking it would be putting out 350-375 NA at the crank and then I'd slap on a 150 shot or a mild supercharger to put it around 500. Mainly I want to build my first and if I screw something up I'd rather kill a 600 dollar block than a 2000 dollar one. I doubt I'll screw up, but my first shot a it will not be my all out high dollar build.

It's just a stock block given a once over. If the money permits I would just do it right the first time. Rebuying stuff absolutely kills your bank account. The chances of when the block failing and taking something else out at the same time is pretty good too if and when it does go...

Practically stock blocks is what DSS offers...

I believe they grind away block 'flash' to get rid of stress risers which increases the rigidity and integrity of the stock block. It is a very minute difference though...

If not already done you can have any sharp edges deburred which removes sharp edges, notches, ect.. These sharp edges, as stated, are stress risers and can initiate cracks.

They produce good affordable engines though...

Those sound like horrible numbers on a 331 stroker. You can get that on a stock 302 block. . Do it right the first time and go for a higher compression.

Well I was just throwing out arbitrary numbers. It could be higher but you get the point of my post.
