about the gt40 crate motor

I got my crate 306 with b-cam, arp rod bolts, ported e7's (no big deal maybe 7-10HP and they still suck- shimmed springs, reground valves but an ok start), and flat top pistons, decked honed for $1800 shipped. New engineparts.com . I dealt with Ken. I must mention 2 problems though. One of the e7 heads broke a rocker arm bolt but they did send me out another head. Second, something in the back of the engine is leaking, most likley something needs tightening but I have to take it back to the shop, pull the trans and fix it. I am being charged at least $150 for it but NEP says they will reimburse me. No it is not the oil pan gasket and no it is not rear main seal. I think it is just an allen bolt or something not tightened.

Only things the motor did not include were the intake and oil pan and water pump. If the leak is an easy fix, I made out pretty good with them.

I also bought a gt 40 crate engine when I blew apart my old engine I have the one with the turbo swirl alum. heads and e cam no problems very good engine reuse your timing cover, water pump, oil pan and oil pickup and harmonic balancer and I think that was about it. I run fun ford weekends so it is a great stout piece I actually use it as a daily driver but since gas has gone up I cannot afford to do that anymore so I baught a little nissan p/u with a 4 cyl for gas mileage.

why do u need to reuse the oil pan? ive always heard this myself, but what is the difference. they are both almost identical. in the ford catalogue, there is one part number for 79+ 5.0. can anyone tell me why? because im considering a new crate engine too and my stock oil pan is rusting through and wont do me any good

I know guy from track who live in OH, Cleveland area, he have purple 95 GT with GT40 crate enine with auto ,exhaust, gears and some other mods, he dynoed 260Hp at wheels on dynoyet ,Stang runs low 14s
In my sign i have "Slow5.0 compilation video" i raced him last year when he claimed 500HP :rlaugh: ,but this year i asked him onece again and he said 260 :nonono:

I definately plan to go the crate engine route. Just not sure which one. I run a pretty good size car club, and am quite sick of reading about guys that end up pulling or rebuilding their motors every couple of years. Heck some don't even make it 500 miles without problems.

Not sure if the engine builders in this area just suck or what... but I'm not trusting anyone around here. I also don't want to gamble on myself trying to figure out what combo I want and need. Piecing an engine together doesn't sound like something you should practice on when your car is basically your daily driver.

To me the stock engine has done great. Sure I would like to run like a stripped ape, but in all reality, if I could get closer to my juice #'s without the juice... I would be really happy!
