hi
i have a 306 and i tried to put the timing but i dont now why i put 13* based timing (without timing plug) and with the plug in arround 2500rpm my time goes up to 42* and after 3500rpm comes back to 32* is this normal? In what rpm's do i have to take the max timing and what timing you recomend me for my 306 it has stock heads milled and ported (1.94 and 1.55 valves) stock intake(ported) and TB, 274HR (comp cams) 1 5/8 long tube headders T5 manual 3.73 gears.

PS. Here in Venezuela whe have 95 octane fuel so i thik i can have beter timing!

I'd just advance it as much as I can without any pinging. You should be able to go pretty far with 95 octane.

You might have been seeing timing with EGR vs w/o, etc. The puter adjusts so much that it is hard to keep up with and slight movements (in terms of how the throttle is snapped open and how long it is held) can make a difference upon which systems kick in or dont.

Otherwise, I pretty much do what Mike does.

Good luck.

you could run 16*-18* if it's good cool air out. and w/ that much octane you NEED to run more timing or you will lose power from it.

and yes w/ the SPOUT out it can jump all over the place.

i just use base timing.

When the EGR is operational, the computer dials in extra timing (the less volatile mixture allows more timing and less fuel).

Notch, We know what you meant, but I think this is where you were going (changed word is in bold).
