about to run against some ricers, need some help on launching

ok, my friend set up some races for me against some ricers he knows. there will be an Accord (which i know is basically stock), some Integras (dont know what they have), and maybe an RSX (dont know his mods either). so my only concern is hooking up and getting out of the hole. does someone have any advice for launching on factory rubber? i know i can take them if i just dont spin.

and for those wondering, this will be done at an old abandoned shcool where no one ever hangs out, except to race.

i know, but what if one of them has similiar hp or even a 50-75 shot of juice. i just want to be sure, plus i'd rather win by a lot over just winning. i want them to have no arguments like "i screwed up, i could have had you. it was so close"

Just feather the gas just enough to where you can feel your tires just barely start to spin. or just take off from idle, then hammer thru the gears hard.

I don't think you will have any problems with these cars though. .02

How worn are your tires right now? Thats the key.

kj99 is right on the launch there. But yes, you should have no trouble with them. The accord is of course nothing to worry about. The RSX I suppose could be trouble if it's pretty well modded, but I have taken stock RSXes in the '94 SHO in my sig and your car would stomp that thing.

How worn are your tires right now? Thats the key.

my tires are kinda worn. although, i just had my tires rotated!! yepee!! i just remembered that! i should be ok on tread. but i probably dont need a burnout before the race since im on street tires, right? also, should i rev to about 3k rpms and slip the clutch? or should i rev lower, ~1700 and slip it almost as fast as a dump? i dont really launch too much so i suck at it.

I would take off like you do from a stop light.. then ease into it.. don't worry if there alittle ahead of you... if you panic and step on it you will blow off tire and they will put more distance on you..

Just take it easy out of the whole and ease into it.. quick shifts... (don't take your foot off the gas the whole time and you will catch em... or you should..

not to be a jerk or anything, but just go practice. that's the best way to find out what works for you. go find a empty parking lot, or deserted back road & practice launching. we can all tell you what to do, but actually doing it is completely different.
btw - the reason i say most of this is, i really couldn't tell you how to launch. i just learned by praticing. & i took a wrx off the line last night that was launching at 4500 (supposedly)

i agree with what was just stated, its all up to you and how you like to launch. for me i like to launch at like 2500 on the street with street tires and just feather the clutch. seems to work best for me. but i would say just go out and practice, thats the only way you are going to know for sure.

i agree with you, and it is good advice, however im going out in about 3 hours, so i dont have a lot of time to go practice. thanks for the help tho

well with the competition your up against, just don't get all tense at the launch & you should be alright. just don't try to over do it, you'll be sure to boil the tires if you try stuff you haven't done before

I had a really hard time hooking up with 4.10s and new-ish Gatorbacks. Like anything past 3/4 throttle at any point in 1st and it was like being on ice. I don't know if you're traction problems are that bad or not?

Order some Nittos and school them.

I hear alot of guys saying the RSX Type-S's run decent but every one I've ever raced has been a dog and I watch them run mid - low 15s at the track all the time. I'm sure a good driver can get a high 14 in a Type S but by the same token a good driver can get a stock '99-up into the high 13s.

all you need to do on stock rubber is haze the tires. as for launching, just practice before hand
also, if you want to launch kinda hard, tach it to around 3000 then just slip the clutch quickly and youll hook after a rotation or two of the tires and be off to fry some rice .

Personally, I wouldn't be too worried about nailing a perfect launch based on that competition. If you were racing an LS1, then I'd say don't be anything short of pefect just to limit how bad you lose. Just get off the line reasonably quick and you'll be fine.

you can beat them too just depends on drivers (i have a few witnesses to attest to it )

Follow the posts above reguarding your launch. But just remember there are some ricers out there that you need to watch out for. My friend in his 2002 Z06 got beat by 10 cars on the highway here in Jacksonville by a Honda Civic.

Have u guys looked at his sig? 4.10 gears with stock tires is gonna kill him on the launch. How about rev it up to 4k and dump the clutch in 2nd?
