Hey Guys,

I've had some rattling noise in the engine compartment and traced it back to the AC compressor clutch and pulley assembly. There is a plate thats about a 1/4" in thickness and is vibrating like mad. I attached a pic of the what I'm talking about. Any idea how to correct this? I havent touched an ac compressor in 10 years.

Looks and sounds like you need a new ac clutch hub, thats the plate on the front of the ac compressor that you are talking about. I would take off the nut, pull of the plate, inspect the clutch pulley surface also for excessive wear. If it looks fine, replace the clutch hub, but make sure you put the clutch air gap to spec. The original shim will usually put you in spec but I would check to make sure with a feeler gauge that its around the .021-.036 inch range when assembled.
