Hey everyone. My boss has a 93' LX. He has a JET chip, flowmaster cat back and a bbk cold air. We just put in a professional products 70mm trottle body and spacer...Now it kinda whistles when you step on it. Almost like its sucking air. Would the mass air flow sensor being stock cause this? because there is now a 70mm trottle body..

Also, its a automatic. So does it have a AOD or AODE? And what are some options on shift kits or valve bodies for which ever tranny it has.

Check the TPS and ensure that it is set correctly. If the TB is not opeing up in synch with the motor spin up then will try to suck all the air is can past the inadequately opened butterfly valve.

Can you explain that alil better? Im new to the 5.0's and i gotta try and explain it to my boss. And how do i adjust the TBS?

Sure.... sorry about that. The TPS is the throttle position sensor. It's the thing on the throttle body that monitors the position of the butterfly valve. Start the car up and let it get to operating temp. Put a meter on the TPS and see what it's reading. It should be about .95 +/- .04 at idle. If it's not then you need to rotate (adjust) the TPS until it is in that range.

Naw... You'd have to have one hell of a combination sucking a whole bunch of air to make the kind of noise you describe. Upping just the TB to a 70mm isn't going to give you that. It's possible that the small meter could be causeing a restriction but no where NEAR the point where it's gonna turn the meter into a party favor.

Okay cool. Now when we rev it under the hood and put our ears by the air filter. it sounds like its coming right from the mass air flow-air filter location....the whistle noice doesnt sound near the intake/tb?

i think the whistle is from the inlet tube not being straight. make sure its lined up properly. i had that problem too and i got it to stop after i put the stock tb back on played with the inlet tube a few times. pay more attention to where the inlet meets the tb. is there an intake or heads on the car? if not 70 is too big IMO.

No intake or heads. YET. I beleive hes going to be going to a GT40 or Trickflow intake. May be a performer rpm ll. not sure. I think hes going to leave the heads alone and get some 1.7 rockers. He also has a set of march underdrive pullies and electric fan waiting to get installed. So you say it might be the inlet tube not being straight. inlet tube you mean the cold air induction correct?

does anyone know what the size of the tb inlet is on the stock intake. is it a posibility that 70 plus smaller hole makes the whiste? i think that i still had the whistle even with the stock tb, but then i was able to fix it after a few times of trying to align the inlet tube.
