Adjusting Ford Racing e-brake cables (Sn95 disk)

SO i've adjusted this stupid E-brake 2 times already and it seems to be stretching still. How many times do you guys adjust before it seems to stop it's stretch?

What a PITA to adjust. I have to remove the center console, unbolt the handle, move it rearward to give some slack and then tighten the cable up a few turns and put it all back together. I wish there was some sort of handle adjustment so i didn't have to go under.

Anyway, anyone have similar expeirence in your initial setup? Did you have to readjust the cable several times before it held well?

Yes, I had to adjust it two or three times before the cable stopped stretching. Adjusting the cable with the driveshaft still on.....

Are the 99-04 rear brakes the same as the sn-95 rear discs? I have 01 rear discs but the cables are just a few inches to short.. Just curious as to what e brake cables I needed.

01 brakes are Sn95 brakes. SN95 is 1994 to 2004

Yes, the brakes are the same. You would need the 3 Ford Racing cables as well

1 x M-2810-A

2 x M-2809-A

You will also need an M8 x 1.25 nut for the threaded cable. Buy two and use them to jam each other

I think I had to adjust mine 2 or 3 times to take out the initial stretch of the cables, its so nice having a handbrake that actually holds the car, with the stock drums it would not hold at all, lol!

Do you guys have a prob with the threaded rod hitting your driveshafts?

Mine hits, but that might be because ihave a larger AL driveshaft. I don't want to dremel the rod end off if i don't have to...but I just might.

I need to get it done because where i park the car is a slight incline. I gotta yank the crap out of the e-brake, park it in gear AND put a chock for added insurance.

Annoying part is when i take the brake off and the threaded end bounces off my driveshaft because it has stretched. I have to drive with the e-brake 1 or 2 clicks up

You think that you could use a Sn95 brake handle, but I hear that the SN95 has the "wrong" handle, its a carryover from the Fox. It kinda sucks that they didnt make a better system to adjust the brake on our cars.

Hmm. My drums hold the car great with the e brake; I heard the disc brakes wouldnt hold the car as well. Good to know that it can/will hold.

The Handbrake Handle is the same up to 1998, I used a 98 Cobra Handle in mine because I liked the Leather, it was exactly the same as my 92 Handle so I cut the Spring and welded the pawl. I would think if people were having problems having the rear discs hold is is because they used the wrong cables or did not do the necessary hand brake handle mods.

I have the Ford Motorsports Aluminum Driveshaft on mine and the Threaded Center cable has never made contact, its been a couple years since I crawled under there but I am thinking I used a spacer on mine because the double nuts were close to the bottom of the threads.

I had that problem at first. Lowered car with Al driveshaft. I kept adjusting the cable until it cleared the driveshaft. You just have to keep adjusting until the cable finishes stretching.

This happens because of where the gear and arm get welded together. If you don't twist the gear so that it winds as much of the cable as possible around the drum, you have more slack to try to adjust out. That's when the cable drags on the aluminum driveshaft.

Same on mine. I used several washers to space the equalizer bar back a bit and then the two nuts. I finally got mine to work a year ago for my inspection, and it took a couple of times to adjust it right.

Its been a few years since I was under there, but I am almost positive I used a couple washers or a section of old fuel tube or something as a spacer. I am glad that Ive never had any issues with the center cable rubbing the driveshaft though!

hey i'm almost done doing my 5 lug conversion and i'm stuck with the cables. i'm using the sn95 stuff, and i'm in need of advice on where to start.

Do i need the sn95 parking brake cable (the little one that connects to the handle)? and i hear i have to take out a spring on the handle or weld something? this is the part where i'm stuck on finishing this 5 lug disc conversion.

Unless your car is a 93 or newer, i don't think SN95 cables will work. You'll need the 3 ford racing cables.

Also, you'll need to mod a SN95 handle to work just the same as you would with the fox handle, so it makes no differences which you use

SUmmit has them for a decent price if you haven't ordered already

You'll need an 8mm x 1.25 nut or two for the threaded rod. It doesn't come with it for some reason
