Hey guys Installed my heads AFR 185's and when I put the rockers on SVO 1.6 stud mount I noticed that the rocker nut screws only about 8 threads on to the stud. I screwed the locks in and they tightened pretty good but I am worried because the locks are like 1/2" down from the top of the rocker nut. Is this normal. I have heard the lock should be just below or if not flush with the top of the nut? What the hell? Do I need longer studs for this set-up?

Hey,
i have the same problem with my AFR´s and
comp pro magnum roller rockers.
I contact the airflowresearch hotline. They confirmed
that the studs are too short with some roller rockers.
He recommended the ARP #134-7104 or AFR #6409.

So I just called AFR twice, because as you all know you have to call every company twice these days to see what two answers you get so you can compare teh two. The first tech says "it will be fine" the 2nd tech says get ARP 134-7104 which will be .250 longer?

thats scary!!

Well I just ordered the ARP 134-7104 just to be safe because Summit has them for $29.88 and they are much stronger then the AFR studs. Hey what the hell I'll just keep buying parts until I can't afford the gas to drive my ****ing car :uzi:

I am using Trickflow 6.300 pushrods. Don't take my word for your pushrod length as every engine is different due to all of the variables. My block was zero decked So I only had to go with about .280 over stock. Get a pushrod length checker from Summit for $12 and you will be certain which size you need after measuring.

If you read about the AFR heads and certain rocker arms (most namely the pro magnums) they say you will need a longer stud.

My block had a clean shave of 4 thousandths off of it. I have AFR 165 heads, a comp cams XE270 cam, harland sharpe rockers, and cometic .040" HG.

Stock length is I think 6.272" and mine looked right with a 6.250" pushrod. Basically mock it up. On the base circle of the cam, you want the roller tip slightly more towards the intake side, at half lift around the center, and and full lift more towards the exhaust side. You won;t know until you measure it out, too many variable change it.

Remember, to bring the roller tip more towards the intake, use a shorter pushrod, to push it back towards the exhaust, use a longer one.
