AFR heads and Stock H pipe questions

I have ashot at some used AFR 165 heads, complete with rockers and pushrods, shipped for $900..Is this a decent price, and will i feel much diffrence with just an X cam? Secondly, has anyone put hi flow cats on a stock H pipe? I found one today cheap and figued since I needed Cats hi flow would work, any thoughts??

First, yes you will feel a big difference if you go from E7's to AFR's with almost any cam. The X-cam maybe won't maximize the power gain, but you will still see a significant increase in horserpower. I wouldn't waste the money putting hi-flow cats on a stock h-pipe, I would just wait until you can afford a new x or h-pipe, which will come with high flow cats anyway.

A h-pipe w/ cats can be found for cheap, especially used. Check the corral/stangnet/etc classifieds and see what you come up with.

AFR's will blow your mind compared to E7's. I would probably compare the change as if you went from 2.73's to 4.56's.

I did almost exactly what you are talking about in your post.

With stock cam, and stock H-pipe with cats I gained 35 horsepower and 25 ft-lb's of torque by swapping to AFR 165's and 1.6 Roller Rockers.
