aftermarket cap and rotor with factory distributor?

can i do this? just making sure it wont cause a problem. Accel makes a cap/rotor for about $25 (part # 8234). also, should i change the coil as well (doing a tune-up). if so, can one use a aftermarket coil with factory ignition sys?

Yes to all. I would not expect to feel any difference in the Perf parts over NOS parts however. But the Hi-po parts make us feel good and looks nice.

cool. yea, not expecting any performance gains just maybe smoother operation.

how much should i expect to spend on a coil. what should i gap the plugs at?

yeah, the aftermarket stuff works fine. I got the MSD cap/rotor just for the looks, no problems at all. Building on my red/silver theme for the most part.

yea they do look nice. i think some of the aftermarket stuff is actually cheaper anyway than the OEM.

im workin on the red theme as well

Sounds good. I'm not all that careful about the component colors and such (I don't have nice rides like y'all do) but I do look for brass terminals on the cap.

I'd just be slightly weary of aftermarket coils - some tend to end-up on the short side of the failure-rate bell-curve. That said, I just picked up a new [insert popular name brand] coil for 35 shipped that I'll toss on one of these days. The stocker will be in my trunk however - just in case.

Urban's plug gap is right-on.

First mod some buddies and I have done at the track to our cars when they were stock.

MSD cap/rotor and FMS wires with autolight plugs. Bumped the timing to 14* (the perf. gain) and ran again. I really dont think you will gain much if any from the aftermarket stuff but it sure looks nicer and is cheaper. I also like the brass in the aftermarket ones.

The only time I have seen a stock replacement tune up part change over one another is bosch plugs...we put a set in my buddies gen1 lightning and it slowed down 3 10ths from the crappy old ones. We swaped the old ones back in and picked the 3 10ths right back up. I have heard others say the same about that brand of plug.

I've got a MSD cap/rotor and coil, Autolite 25s @ 0.050 and Taylor 8.2 wires... oh yeah and the factory dust cover... 20hp!!!

Seriously tho, running great and no complaints.
