Do I need anything special to install an aftermarket speedo or fuel gauge. I'm replacing all my gauges in my 85 with Autometer but I dont know if the factory stuff just plugs right in or what. Thanks, Scot Rod

This helped me, it's not a direct plug in but it's pretty easy to splice all the wires into the factory harness. I couldn't use the factory cluster like in the link because I'm using the 5" gauges.

Thanks, but it doesnt say anything about the speedo setup, and I'm going to install the gauges right into the front facia piece, not the back cluster setup. I cant believe nobody on here has replaced their speedo with an aftermarket gauge.

If it's a mechanical speedo it will work The Autometer speedo is threaded unlike the Ford speedo, but you can press the cable on there and it will stay. The shaft on the end of the cable fits the Autometer speedo. I used the front piece as well, here's a pic of it in the car:

I still have some things to finish up.

Do you have the part number for the speedo you used, and how hard was it to install, also how much did it cost and where did you get it.
Mine original speedo does not work but the tripometer and odometer still work, it has a bad speedo head.
Thanks Jason
