Does anyone make an aftermarket shifter handle only. without repacing the complete shifter? I like the hurst shifter ball for example. will an 04 fit a 06? thanks mike

thanks for the input but do yo have pics? cost? where?

Are these items youare talking about the shifter ball only? can you put up pics? where to get them? and how much?

I was talking about replacing just the knob.thanks

I like the old school knobs. turn it clockwise that's it? what will happen to the boot? are there knobs only for the 05-06 gt? i would like to see pics installed?

I bought mine from steeda. It was kinda expensive, but the shape and feel is 10x better than the stock shifter.
How much was the Steeda shifter and how hard was it to install?
Did you purchase it directly from Steeda?

www.mrt-direct.com has some ball-type knobs for the 05. I have one in my car. Be warned though, a few caveats:

1. The knob itself is threaded for an SN95 shift handle, M12x1.75, and has an adapter that's threaded into it so it'll fit the 05 handle. IMO, it's best to put some red loctite on the threads of the adapter and let it cure before installing it.

2. The knob comes with a jam nut, but it's too thin to be of any use by itself, which leads to the 3rd issue -

3. The stock shifter boot has a large rubber o-ring that is designed to fit around a lip on the stock knob. Well when you take the stock knob away, there's no lip on the bottom of the new knob to keep the boot in place, and it flops around and looks like crap. So I had to improvise: Get a new jam nut and a large flat washer the same diameter of the lip on the stock knob. Thread the jam nut on to the stick, all the way down as far as it will go. Then put the washer on top of it, then the other jam nut. Finally, thread the knob onto the stick and get it down as far as it will go, with the shift pattern facing the right way. Then back the top jam nut into the knob tight, then back the bottom jam nut/washer into the top jam nut. The knob should be solid and tight at that point and not rotate at all. Then, wrap/pry the shift boot around washer and voila - you're done!

I originally emailed MRT about there shift balls when I was looking, and that's the exact reason I went with the MGW.LTD grip shifter ball instead. MRT did at least make the threading insert metal VS plastic.

Guys he's talking about the handle, not the knob. The handle on the stock shifter is one piece all the way down to where it connects to the rod that is connected to the transmission. The thread pitch on the stock shifter handle is 12mx1.25.

Correct, Changing the handle basically upgrades your shifting mechanism on the 05.

I think it was about $65 or $70. Expensive, but the chrome looks and feels great. All you have to do is unscrew the stock shifter and screw this one on ~5 mins. Also, the boot connects riught up to it, so it doesn't look like ****.

Here's the knob I put in my car
