I have an automatic '91 with a shift kit and would like to install an aftermarket shifter. If anyone has ever done this, I have a couple of questions. First, did you have to replace your whole cable or can you use the stock? Second, what shifter did you get? I was looking on Summit and the only one I saw for a 4 speed AOD was pretty ugly.

b&m hammer
The b&m "hammer" shifter uses the stock cable and has the same bolt pattern as the stock shifter. I have one and manually shift all the time and it works very well, each gear position has a stop so you can't overshift or undershift, its a ratchet type shifter, the handle or stick always returns to the center position after shifting. Most people remove the chrome shift knob that comes with the shifter and replace it with a round b&m shift knob for easier shifting.
