Again..ticking noise

Hey guys

I see a lot of threads about ticking noises.

Mine started a couple weeks ago.

It's a slight ticking sound at idle and gets pretty loud at about 2200 rpm.

Thing is it goes away at WOT. Then when I let off you can hear it for about 1 sec, it goes away and comes back shortly after.

Could it be something internal?

A mechanic said it might be a valve adjuster/lifter because it goes away at WOT.

Spark plugs tight? Im sure they blow out at WOT if they were loose enough to rattle around though.

I've thought about that too...but why would it go away when I give it a bit more gas?

I've driven her maybe 25 miles since the noise started so I don't think it would have a chance to blow-out.

Thing is..it would rattle all the time wouldn't it?

I did, however, change the spark plugs and didn't torque them down to spec when I put them back in. I just tightened them nice and snug.
I had trouble with the coil popping out of one of the boots too.

But again..would the noise go away at wot?

my neighbors 99 Cobra was like that. turned out he fried his crank bearings.

Yes check your spark plugs. I had a ticking for like two weeks and i noticed it was getting worse and had scheduled to go to the shop in 2 days since we thought it might be a vaccum leak...then blew a spark plug. So the shop saw my car earlier haha.

Alright well the guy who was looking at it said the plug on cyl #3 was loose as ****.

He tightened it up and said it won't tighten all the way. It backs out pretty easily.
Does anybody think the threads in the head are screwed up already?
I don't think it blew. Never really lost compression.


So I'm praying to God that that solves the problem.


BTW..which NGK spark plugs are recommended for a supercharged 4.6l?(pushing around 355 rwhp)

lol ya kinda have to laugh at spark plugs commin loose when theyre only screwed in finger tight.

If the threads in the head are screwed up you can do one of the insert kits out there. It's a lot cheaper than buying a head.
