AIC compensator plate????

i saw this plate that bolts in between the iac and the tb that has adjuster screws thats supposed to help compensate for goofy idleing......i have not seen this mentioned in here with people who have modded cars or other wise mysterious idleing problems and wondered if it works and or what applications one would use this in if it did work??

I've seen posts about them before and people do use them. I called ford one time about one and they denied the fact that it even existed, so you'd prob. have to get one from the net. There's probably a reason for goofy idling, (ie, vac leak, large cam, timing, etc). If there's a problem, it would prob. be best to fix it instead of "compensating" w/ an idle adjuster. There's an idle adjuster screw where you can adjust your throttle to make it idle idle higher/lower, but that sometimes causes more problems and you have to reset your tps when you do that.

FYI, I think the plates are on ebay for around $20 or so.

The part was originally produced by Ford as a recall item for 5.0's. They frequently would be brought in for idle quality related problems as crud built up in the iac solenoid and throttle body. Those components are considered part of the emission control system and have to be functioning properly for 100k miles. Ford discovered it was easier/cheaper (their cost) to bolt the air bypass plate in than it was to pull the iac and throttle and body and clean or replace them. They help some/they don't help others. All you can do is try. Some aftermarket places carry them. Some Ford dealers may have them - some not. The Ford part no. is F2PE-9F939-AA.

thanks for the info.........i happened to see a couple of them on the web and on e bay and with all the idle questions posted in here i just didnt recall ever hearing much discussion about them and was curious......

I would also second the opinion that bolting on the plate on an otherwise stockish engine is only delaying an eventual idle problem. I think in the long run, the 20.00 would be better spent towards a new IAC, new vacuum hoses, gaskets, carb cleaner, etc. I know chasing down an idle problems is a royal pain in the ass, but, hey, get a six pack and make it a party.
