Two days ago coming down the freeway my stang shredded the serpentine belt. Smoke, stink, and loss of power steering and brakes. I got the car home and picked up a new belt the following day (size recommended by kennebell tech support). Replaced the belt and test drove the car with no problems. This morning I was driving it to work and because of the rain put on the AC. A really loud squealing came from the unit immediately so I shut down the AC. After work I checked it out and when the AC clutch pops out the squeal begins. So... no AC. This may be what caused the shredding of the belt also. I probably know what the fix is (new unit) but I was hoping someone had another suggestion (besides don't use the AC). Help!!

The A/C compressor is probably frozen up. As long as the clutch doesn't try to engage you'll be fine. The squealing is the belt running over a motionless pulley.
