Air filter fell out of the fenderwell......

So, I'm coming home today....just like any other day, when THUMP THUMP......
I ran over something in the road, but I didnt see anything there before the thumps. I look in the rearview mirror and what is sitting in the middle of the road, my Air Filter. I turn around and go pick it up, at least I was on a side street, and it is shreaded. I drove about 30 the mile to my house.

What should I do, should I try to drive to NAPA and see what I can pick up there? Should I just order a new one and not drive it all all for the next week. How bad it is that I drove it the mile back home?

BTW it is a BBK CAI...

i've run mine @ the track with no filter. it picked up 2 tenths. just drive and get a new one. as long as you dont live in a very sandy dirty place you will be fine!

if you don't HAVE to drive it, I don't see why you would. Just pick up a replacement K&N, whatever size the BBK kit uses, and don't drive the car without it. It is the height of foolishness to trash a car over a $60 part.

If you have a fenderwell CAI the over-the-counter K&N won't fit without an adapter. I bought one from Dallas Mustang taht fit my Mac CAI. Came in in about 4 days.

Sorry for your luck, but this has to be one of the funniest "oops" I've read in awhile. Make sure you figure how why the hell the thing fell off in the first place, and make sure it doesn't happen again! I would drive it as little as possible, have a friend take you to get a new one. I'm assuming you're intake is sticking in your fender, all you need is something from the road flying up in there, and KABOOM! Just imagine that hot cigarette butt you see flying out of the window of the pickup truck in front of you, bouncing down the road...

measure and find out if its 3" or 3.5" then get a universal k&n

A nylon stocking has plastic in it that was made to wear, not put in a engine bay. I'd be worried about it comming part and getting in the engine.

If you have the parts still, just install your stock stuff till you can get the replacement part you need. Then, put more force on the clamp then you did during your first install.

I was always fearfull of that happening with my BBK cai. It never did but for the first six months i had it everytime i hit a bump i looked to see if it fell off. How long was it on? How often do you clean it? I cleaned mine every six months so I knew it was tight...try some loctite when you tighten up the new one.

Well it wouldn't be in the engine bay, it would be in the fender well. And I know a stocking is made to be worn. But in this situation he just needs something to keep large particles from entering his intake while he drives to the parts store.

Buy a JLT . I doubt the BBK is even giving you anay power vs stock lol. 150 for the JLT and 60 for a stinking fliter that may fall off again.

If he doesn't tighten the filter on the JLT that will fall off too!

That's one of the reasons I got the K&N FIPK. It's easier to check on the filter.

...and it's the reason I just went with a K&N drop in, into my stock airbox. That baby ain't going anywhere.
