I have heard several diferent things about air filters. Some have said just remove the silencer and keep the stock box with a k & n and others say remove the silencer, air box, and install open element air filter- conical type. If I do conical type I don't know why I need to remove silencer although its not a hard job. Seems like I should just have to remove air box to make room for new filter. Anyway, I know that this isn't really a significant power gain but would like to know what most of you all have done. Its a speed density set up if that matters in this situation. Any info. would be much appreciated.

Don't use an underhood conical filter, you want cold air not hot air from the engine bay. You'll end up losing performance. Either use the stock box and ditch the silencer or get a fenderwell mounted cold air kit.
