air intake muffler?

I have a 93 2.3L. Is this worth replacing the muffler with a straight pipe? And whats the purpose? Did Ford think you could hear the intake sucking massive amounts of air over the powersteering pump?

Thats funny! Any time you take obstructions away from the intake/exhaust paths it helps

It's there so the car would meet federal intake noise regs (you should hear how loud it is without that thing).

And yes, replacing it with a piece of pipe or just cutting out the center helps a good bit. It necks down to about 1" diameter inside.
