air intake temperature

:spot: I have a data logger on the diablo predator and the AIT was 130 after a 25 mile trip and sitting still. The modified part is just the stock tube because my fipk tube melted  I made a tube out of pvc and heat resistant paint, but I got the IAC hole and the other hole  a little out of kilter so I took it off because it was way close the coil and injector wiring. To lazy to make another for no noticable gain. Plus the stock tubing put the filter in the perfect spot next to the fender hole. That data logger is neato. But it will make you worry about things that may not be a problem. Like its showing me a misfire (another post).

When I'm driving at a decent speed say 50-60 mph the IAT gets to somewhere within 10 degrees of the outside air temp... usually pretty darn close to it actually. When sitting...it will heat up over 100. Just make sure that when moving it gets somewhere close to outside temp...otherwise your car may be pulling timing due to excessively hot air intake.

I have a JLT RAI, btw.

:spot: Thanks guys thats been helpful. I think I will take the fipk off when I can find a stock air box. If anyone has one let me know please. Or I may find a fendermount cai. I thought that was a little hot. Oh the tube did not melt all the way, more of a deforming from the heat. I do not recommend engine bay mounted filters. I thought I would measure IAT because it runs good in the morning but when it gets hot, its a dog. Even after 15 miles in the morning I feel a sluggishness.

check your pm in a bit

Man, thanks for the post! I was wondering what that thing was showing normally...so now that I see it shows 100-140, I cant imagine how much timing the EEC is pulling. Thats exactly why I bought a kit last week to relocate that into the fender. Hopefully it will help.

Now you know why Ford go's to all that trouble and expense to install a thru the fender air intake as stock. AND... why when changing to a free flowing CAI you should always get one that go's thru the fender and doesn't suck in that HOT under hood air.

Personally i would not relocate the iat senor into the fenderwell, your tricking the eec to think the air temp is cooler than it actually is getting. more prone to detonate
