ok when i bought my car the guy said it has an alarm on but he lost the key pad but he had the booklet for the alarm from ford so two weeks ago i went to get the pad from the dealership they said it didnt come with an alarm?
and it has the led for the alarm so is it possible he has an aftermarket alarm on it?

if so how could i find out cause why else would he have the red led for an alarm on it but ford sayed i didnt have one from the factory

well if its stock, the only LED is the little red "theft" light that blinks in the gauge cluster.

so if it has a real aftermarket LED, and they say it doesnt have an aftermarket alarm... either you or take it to a place who knows alot about alarms to look under your driver side dash (steering column) and see if there is an alarm brain or any signs of aftermarket wiring under there for an alarm. good luck

You may have a dealer installed Ford alarm. It comes with a LED just like aftermarket alarms. The module has Ford written on it but it's made by Code Alarm for Ford. If that is what is installed, you would have to purchase a remote for that alarm and program it to the module.

i woudlnt ever let a dealer do an alarm install.

they may be mechanical genius's, but they do lack electrical knowledge regarding basic autosound and security

I have been to many auto security courses in the past and have been installing auto security systems in vehicules for almost 13 years. I know quite a few "tricks" when it comes to alarm installs that you only learn through experience. I happen to work at a dealership. Now I don't speak for all dealers but neither should you.

thats what i did i went to the dealership to get a remote and get it programed but they sayed i didnt have an alarm on the car. there is a little red led on the dash next to the rear defroster (96gt) so i figured i had an alarm on it.

if that helped any let me know

thanks for the help guys

fair enough. ive been in the business for about 5 years, not as long as you... but all the "dealer" installs regarding alarms ive seen have been something my little sister could do better.

but no offense to you, nor anyone else who actually is a mechanic with an actual expertise knowledge of autosound/security

The remote for the Ford alarm if it has one, is not the same as the regular keyless entry remote. Like DisposableHero mentioned, you may have to look under your dash or remove some trim and see exactly what module if any is under there. It may have had an alarm and then been removed but they left the LED there just so you wouldn't have a hole in the trim or they might have just installed a LED as a theft deterent all by itself.

Thanks and I do agree with you that there are some real butcher installs on some cars. As to where they were done, that I don't know. There is no doubt you have good and bad auto techs in all sorts of businesses. The trick is to try and find the good ones :) .
