I am getting new tires but the tire shop doesn't do alignments. I have to go somewhere else for that. Should i get the tires mounted first or does it matter. I am thinking mount and balance new tires first for a new alignment. Any thoughts?
Thanks

You won't have any problems if you travel from the tire shop to the alignment shop, it takes time to wear on tires

I have to ask but are you getting an alignment just because you're getting new tires?

The outside edge of the left front started to wear faster than the right also its been about 30,000 miles since my last one when i got new wheels. Some of our roads aren't the best and i go over r/r tracks twice a day going to work. I figure it sure can't hurt.

it doesnt matter what order you do it. you will not wear the tires in a few miles

Go ahead and get the tires/wheels mounted and then head over to the alignment shop.

as an alignment tech, i prefer to have new tires on there when i do the alignment. i do like to know what the old ones looked like so i get an idea of what im going to have to do on the vehicle. the alignemnt rack that i use at work makes it soo easy, Hunter ftw.

i'm an alignment tech also. knowing what the old tires looked like will let you know what you need to looks for when it comes time to fix everything.

what rack are you using BD? i have a hunter DSP400 and i hate it! it is a good machine but it is soooo damn slow doing caster sweeps. i was on a DSP 600 at my old shop and it was the best machine you could ask for. and it does make it very easy to align almost anything (except astro vans and aerostars) you get pictures that show you every adjustment that is on the vehicle. it only took me about 2 months to learn how to align almost ay vehicle ever made!

ya we have 2 DSP400s. one is faster than the other. OMG i know what you mean about the caster sweeps taking forever. i had the DSP600 when i went to Sears alignment school and i fell in love. we would go and draw smiley faces on the sensors so when the next group would do their alignment they would have to view the sensors. i do have to say that the shim, and bushing calculators are a gift from god. the i-beam bushings take about 5 minutes a side now with those. and WinToe is the best invention ever, although i have noticed that if i have to adjust toe more than .6 i have to constantly reset the steering wheel. i usually just end up locking it and adjust with the car running.
