wanted to keep it simple... justa 1 day head sway, but nooooo. A 20 yr upgrade in a 35 y/o vehicle. Go frm cfi to efi, but they don't sell beyond a bear head. Need/want OBDII, engine harness, injectors, brain, etc, etc

"...have to watch this..."
nota 'build thread' (at least the way U described them to me). Nota 'mechanic' but do restore asa hobby/way to drive something for free I could not afford. Did so for some time asa kid (50s/60s Italian stuff), hada income in the 80s - 2010 so by then - paid others to maintain my wagons. Started up again for retirement. Missed transition to efi, computer transmissions, etc. The old days I could swap a head ina day or less. Thought I'd try this here (4.2 head toa 3.8 block) rather than swing ina engine (302/4.2). Might not be doable as imagined~

I'm just at the research phase. My 1st bent 6. Local yrd hasa Freestar. Most round here don't allow a walk thru (Pick'n Pull style) but look like libraries w/numbered/ltred rds'n ilses. Stuff stacked 4, 5 hi on fancy shelf work. U wait in an a/c office they CB out to a yrd man he runs a fork lift, etc, etc. A lill different than ol daze and nuttin over 10 yr old there (out to crusher). I feel luck w/this one but may B not...

Nother of my post here abt it showed I'd need the controller (mmm, gettin expensive) for the 4R70W/e to swap in. Again, I'm ol skol (translate "dumb") - do they reflash a cpu/emc (from the 4.2 head car) to accept the od auto ? I see somptin bout O'Riely's ? The freestar hasa frnt transaxle (do I hate those, just dida prelud clutch) 4F50N or some sorta AX4N and the other would fit behind the frankinstine 3.8/4.2...

Produced '81/'07 (till ecoboost) it was the most reliable F-series truck motor during the day.
Multi-point fuel injection (single port) became standard on the 3.8 L V6 in 1988, raising power and torque to 140 hp (104 kW) at 3800 rpm and 215 lb⋅ft (292 N⋅m) of torque at 2400 rpm. Engines upgraded with Ford's EEC-V Powertrain control module (PCM) received a small increase in output to 155 hp (116 kW), if they did not have other enhancements to increase output beyond this already. The 1991–1995 Police Package Taurus, 1991–1994 Lincoln Continental and 1995 Ford Windstar had a high-output version of the 3.8 L with better cylinder heads and other modifications that produced 155–160 hp (116–119 kW) and 220–225 lb⋅ft (298–305 N⋅m) of torque depending on application and model year.

A 3.8 L V6 with SPI was introduced in the 1996 Windstar. With a compression ratio of 9.3:1, this engine was rated at 200 hp(149 kW) at 5000 rpm and 230 lb⋅ft (312 N⋅m) of torque at 3000 rpm. The upper intake manifold has a sticker located on the passenger side of the forward plenum denoting "Split Port Induction".

For 1999 the 3.8 L in the Mustang was updated to use the split port cylinder heads originally introduced on the Windstar, but did not use IMRC, leaving all twelve intake runners open at all times. Output of the V6 in these Mustangs was 190 hp (142 kW) at 5250 rpm and 220 lb⋅ft (298 N⋅m) of torque at 2750 rpm.[5] With the addition of IMRC to the Mustang in 2001, engine output increased slightly to 193 hp (144 kW) at 5500 rpm and 225 lb⋅ft (305 N⋅m) of torque at 2800 rpm.
AFTER came the below:

4.2L Applications:
1997–2008 Ford F-150
1997–2003 Ford E-150, 250
2004–2007 Ford Freestar
2004–2007 Mercury Monterey
3.8 L's bore, but featured a stroke lengthened to 95 mm (3.74 in), bringing its displacement up to 4,195 cc (256.0 cu in) over that of the 3.8L Essex so a pretty 'square engine" (tiny 'over sq') asa 4.2...
Thnx for askin~
