All of you who run Nitto's on a DD....

What kind of life (miles) are you getting from the tread? I need new tires, and I'm considering Nitto 555 extremes, and was wondering how long they would last. I was told by a tire dealer that they wear quickly.
I'm seriously considering running Kumho Ecsta MX, I think that's what I'm going to get. My buddy (306notchback on here) has them on his 01, and they perform well in all ways. Anyone else have these?

my ecta's gave me no grip whatsoever and all i have is bolt ons and a tune.. stick with the nitto's. I have the 555 extremes and i've done a 1200 mile road trip on them, went to the track a couple times with them, lots of donuts and daily drive with them and i still have about 90% of the tread on them and i've had them for about a year almost..

My 315 nitto Drs lasted about 12 or 13K miles. Few drag strip trips and no real burnouts that would eat off much of any rubber to speakof minus the track.

I loved em....but I was always worried about rain. Im going to go with crappy sumitimo tires on my cobra and see what happens. I know my Gt used to bascially go into the other lane at highway speeds with them LOL.

BTW I got 33K out of my rear 285 kumhos...so im not too hard on rear tires.

I'm running the Nitto 555 Extremes and have about 4000 miles on them. I was actually just checking them today and they show no wear as of yet. I'm more of a road racer, but with the P1SC it has seen its' share of break lose acceleration runs. No track visits. I really wasn't worried about rain performance being in So Cal. But then we just had 3 large rain storms over 5 days here and the Nittos did pretty well. Cornering grip was okay, but a little too hard on throttle and it would break lose fairly quickly. So far if you were to ask me, I'd probably buy them again. Excellent dry weather grip and it appears I will get decent mileage out of them for what they are. I'm sure it all depends how much abuse you put them through. Hope this helps.

milage depends on your driving style and on the tread wear rating of the tire. the higher the number the longer the tires will last

just ordered my nitto 555r's tonight...lol this thread helped me make up my mind...hopefully they will be here by friday so i can go to the track and see what my SC GT can do

My friend lit those things a lot There was a good amount of tread on them for having them for two months until he hit a deer and totaled his GT.

been through 6-7 sets of nitto drag radials over time. They last between 5-10k, with track use. After a few sets, its always wise to air on the side of caution, just as any bald tire, its better to spend an extra 275-300 on a set of newer tires than risking your entire vehicle and health on a set of bald dr's. They are safe as long as you use common sense and know how much tread is on them. Ive traveled countless road trips between houston and the the texas hill country(roughly 200 miles each way) in adverse weather with no issues. Just use your brain and you will be fine.

Put over 60K on the first set working on the second set now, Great tire even on wet roads. You'll love em.

Are you sure your talking about the Extreme 300s? If you're talking about the Nitto 100s, then that is somewhat believable.

I got 12k miles out of my 315's Nitto 555R's. I loved em, they hooked well.

ive put around 2k on mine so far (555R), i bought the car with them a month old and they have pretty ****ty treadwear. i have around 50% tread left. after i was my car and drive for a few minutes you can wipe your finger on the rear bumper and wipe away compound that just comes off from normal driving.

they are awesome performers though, if its warm outside i can tromp 1st at WOT and not break loose, if its cold 2nd gear usually sticks well. great for launching a IRS Cobra against even AWD vehicles, i can stick next to my buddies 06 WRX from a dig.

buy them if you want a good gripping tire and dont care about how long they last.

i've put around 30k on my nitto 555's, they were on the rear for about a year (15k atleast) where i went to the drag strip quite a bit and lots of burnouts and stuff, and i now have some nitto 555r's on the back and moved the 555's to the front, the 555r's have around 8k on them and show wear but not as bad as i expected. and i have had no troubles in the rain with them. drove 250+ miles on the highway in the rain with never a problem of hydroplaining. this is on 275's.

He was asking about the Nitto 555 Extreme, which is what I have (not the 555R) and yes believe it or not I put over 60K on them. These are 285's all the way around.

my Nitto 555 Extremes have about 10k miles and 30 or so 1/4mi runs on them. i don't see any problem getting another 15-20k miles on them if not more.

Wow! I have never heard of anyone getting that type of mileage out of those tires. Are you sure you don't drive in the rain all the time? lol
