What are your thoughts on power brakes and how much will they be affected with air pump removed as far as lost vacume etc. What did you guys do with the lines that were left.... what did you cap and how much effect did removing the air pump, air tube to the intermediate pipe, and plugging the back of the heads have on your power brakes?

Thanks

The brakes draw vacuum from the motor, not the air pump. Taking it off will not affect them at all.

I capped the ports on the back of my heads (forget what size plug) and then completely removed everything smog related. Air pump, all the lines, the tube to the H-pipe, the solenoids on the pass strut tower and capped the two lines running to it. Car runs the same, engine bay looks way cleaner

5L5 is spot on; disconnecting the air pump correctly will have no impact whatsoever on the power brakes. The two systems have nothing to do with each other. The air pump injects air (excess oxygen) into the exhaust system so the catalytic converters will have the extra oxygen needed to catalyze chemical reactions which change NOx, unburned HC and CO into harmless CO2, N2 and H20. All you need is vacuum from the intake to run the power brakes.

Well, that is what I figured, thanks for the reasurance.....

There was just one air line? that I was concerned with and it ran from down low just after the smog pump ( towards the firewall) onto the top of one of the valves up to the collector of air lines up by the passenger fender well. That I haven't cap'd or plugged and the other line I left to the EGR for now....

Ok, I have a question about this. I capped the line running from the intake to the charcoal canister off. I unplugged the purge valve solenoid. I forgot about it and just layed it down, I had the hood up the next day and had the car running and that thing had power on it and it was sparking. Do I just need to cut the plug off and tape it up or what should I do? Also, the vaccum lines the go down to the smog lines comming off the pump, what should you plug them with? There is like 4 or 5 that broke on me and now that im not using the pump anymore I need to cap them off. I broke one that goes to the EGR valve, with me having a blower all those lines that are broke are they making me lose power becuase of vaccum leaks? Thanks

well, the 'junction' in my bay was more down on the strut tower and mid way from the strut tower to the side of the block. There's a junction there with I think 4 small air lines running into a white adapter clip housing. It's a spiders nest of a mess at best and part reason I started tearing shyt out of there L!
