I have a 95 AODE with 3000 stall converter and 4:10's and have been considering adding a cam . I can get many used cams like the "B, E, F and X" but have read on here several times about people having idle problems with the alphabet cams. I already have a custom chip from JMS and don't mind getting it re-burned since I will be doing other mods that will require a re-burn anyway. My question is with the chip will I have idle problems or any problems for that matter.

I would not suggest getting a cam if your running stock heads. It is really a waist of money, all you will get out of it is sound. If you do decide to get one then a custom chip will get rid of all you idle problems.

all you will get out of an e cam is a car that pulls al the way to 6k

my car peaks form around 5k-5400 and then slowly fades offf. I shift a lil after 5600.

since you have a stall, you are fine with the bottom end and will make yoru car scream in 3rd on the highway.

but what heads are you looking at and maybe we can pic out a better cam. dont let some of the guys on here influence you into getting a small cam......

everybody seems to be so scared about the way it will drive.

I am doing P heads as well. definietly go with an AFM b-31 or b21 cam depending on iff you have 1.7s or 1.6s when you swap heads.

also get good springs

that cam with good enough springs will yank your motor to 6200..... and your torque will be awesome.

i have the F-cam and man does it rumble. makes good power, but then again its hard to tell between the cam and the blower. the idle is about 950. it surges a bit when u first start it up but then purrs like a kitten. it doesn't start making good power till like 3000 rpm which is nice for a street car so u can drive it normal without any problems. it doesn't like to go lower than 1750 rpm so i would think that with the auto, it might be a problem but i don't know. you would need to get your chip reflashed to fix the idle.
