Now that I have the 6-speed pattern burned into my palm, I'm looking for an alternative to the aluminum ball shifter knob. Is the Shelby cue ball style better at not heating up in the sun?

Metal transfers heat. Find whatever one is not metal.

I have experienced that but I really love the look of the stainless steel ball. I decided to try to find a Mustang or Ford golf club head cover to keep in the glove box for days when I have to park in the sun. Haven't found it yet but I'm sure it's out there somewhere...

MGW offers composite shift knobs. Not sure if they are prone to heat but they feel and look good.

Check out Speed Dawgs - I got a really cool blue acrylic knob and they have adapters for the Mustang thread pitch.

I ran into the same problem with my knob, I have to park in the sun every day. I point my middle right A/C vent down on the knob, it helps alot.

Oh, and for the record, I see the shift pattern burn mark on my palm as a source of pride.

Major Toht feels your pain.

I've always liked the idea of a wooden shift knob.
