alternator controversy!

I just swapped out the belts after removing the smog pump and A/C paperweights from the car. I tried to re-route the smaller belt using a routing that I thought would work. The problem is that now the alternator doesn't charge. WTF! Can these run in either direction and still charge, or are they one -way only? I didn't use any idler pulleys or anything else to replace the missing components, and I can't upload a picture to show the routing that I am using...any suggestions? Thanks

the crank turns clockwise,w.p counter,alt clockwise,and p.s clock so good to go

well crap, that just means I toasted my alternator. Oh well, i just replaced the battery, solenoid, connections, cables, hey, mind as well go all in! Thanks

make sure you got all of the fusible links connected back onto the solonoid post. Your alt charges via one of those fusible links (I think the yellow one).
