Aluminum Drive Shaft

Hey @karthief , I have been to jiffy lube several times and I have never shown my shaft to anyone.....just sayin....

I picked the fox because it's always been my favorite body style; probably because I turned 16 in '88 and owning one then was not an option. I did well to afford my little Ford escort. Once out of HS, I had to foot the bill for college. The second reason is now parts are abundant and sometimes half the cost.
I'm not an endless pit of cash. If i were, I would drop her off at Community Tire in Jackson, TN and in a couple of weeks she could compete with anything on the street. I do, however have a few extra deer lying around so $350 for a drive shaft isn't that big of a deal. The convenience alone of "plug and play" was worth it to me. Shaved a lot of time off of the project.

The fox has become a bit of an icon, I think that would be the correct term, a lot of people want, had or knows someone who has/had one that was really nice/fast and remain an inexpensive platford do build upon.

I just went through this two weeks ago. If you look under the reviews of the Summit shaft, it's actually a Ford Racing shaft. I bought the summit shaft and when I got it, it had the Ford Racing part number on it (DS-FMS-4602G-28). Installed it and this one too is silky smooth at speed.

That's a little sickening. A hundy you'll never see again. While I definitely don't mind spending money where there is value, I don't like spending extra money on apples to apples. Oh, well. Chalk it up and move on.

I hear ya there, I feel the same way.

When I was looking at the prices, I was a little torn. Do I go with the FRPP shaft or the Summit one. Figured if the Summit shaft was crap, I'd just return it and get the other. Most of the Summit branded stuff is actually really good stuff.

I also needed a new fuel pump, so I ordered an Edelbrock pump and when I got it, it was a Walbro pump. Edelbrock put their sticker over the Walbro sticker (which you could still read). Ordered the Walbro pump, returned the Edelbrock and saved some money.

Got the pump through Summit Racing too. That's where I get most of my parts from.

If it helps, I bought my FRPP shaft in 1998...used from a friend for $50...and he bought it used from another friend. It's been lengthened, so it has a weld job on it too. Lots of abuse, never failed. The Summit one could be Chinese.

Thanks for the info. I need to upgrade to aluminum too.

Do the u joints have grease fittings?

I have to have them.

Back in the day....way back. We used to take the driveshafts off of Ford Aerostar vans. They were aluminum and could be made to work. Nothing like an aluminum shaft for 20 bucks.
