I am thinkingn about getting an aluminum driveshaft but have heard varying opinions on them.

First of all i have heard power gains are very minimal, making me question the point of getting one in the first place.

Secondly i heard they snap very easily with lots of power and sticky tires.

Discuss....

You won't feel any difference in performance, but if you have gears supposedly you will be rid of that annoying vibration. That's why I'm looking to get one. They are supposed to be stronger then stock, but that is debatable

I just bought one from American Muscle. It’s sitting in my room and I’m going to get it installed this month. They are stronger then stock and about 20 lbs lighter. Everyone says it reduces all the drive train vibrations from gears and helps acceleration.

i got one just for the hell of it. wasnt expecting much from it. but what it did end up doing for my car is making the clunking drivetrain 100x better. I dont get anywhere near the clunking sounds i used to. I did get a safety loop installed in case it does ever break though

aluminum driveshaft

i had aluminum driveshaft on all my mustangs i have never had any problems from a 13 sec - to a 10 sec car. i have ran them on slicks to bfgs. im doing a bbf car and its going to run in to the 8 sec 1/4 my buddy had a drive shaft made he running a 408 with a powerglide engine shop told him to not use a aluminum driveshaft

I had an aluminum driveshaft installed on my car. really helped out with the driveline vibrations. as far as sotp feel gains none what so ever. But technically it should increase power to the rear wheels! because of less rotating mass. Most likely very minimal.

Your right, kinda. The outside of the driveshaft is so close to the center of it's rotational force that any gain is minimal. Compare it to being on a merry go round. the closer to the center you get, the less pull you feel. So wether it's steel or aluminum, it's so close to the center. the torque gain is almost none.

Don't get one if your expecting to feel power from it, because you won't notice any. I got one when I got my gears put in just because I heard it helps alot with driveline vibrations and so far so good

Usually people get them with gears to solve the annoying vibrations. It's easier on your drivetrain and weighs less than the stock shaft which is good if you want weight reduction for the track. The revs seem to be smoother also, but not really any power gains. IMO, it's worth it in the long run, the FMS DS is the one I got and recommend
