Aluminum Driveshaft: Yoke too long

So it's been sitting for a year and I can't return it. I just decided now was a good time to install it. Well, it's too long between my t5 and 8.8 rearend on my 1985 Capri. Putting it next to my original driveshaft, it is about a 1/2 inch too long in the yoke.

I tried to swap the old yoke from the old driveshaft and place it on to the new driveshaft, but the U-joint is too large. What is going on? Isn't it supposed to be a direct replacement?

The diameter of the yoke shaft is larger too.

have you tried to install the driveshaft? I think they have the klonger yoke to engage the tail shaft more to provide more strength.

I did and it won't slide into the back of the tranny. Do I just need to force it?

I remembered reading somewhere on here wher I might have to switch yokes.

Maybe I could try putting the yoke on without the driveshaft just to see if it really does fit.

yeah try the yoke and see where things go. It should just slide in once the splines are lined up.

thanks! Well, at least I had practice changing a u-joint!

problem solved. my mistake. I bought the driveshaft last june and am just installing it. It was the wrong one. Yep, it was the "J" and I needed the "G" since I have a pre-1996.


We all make mistakes. I can't believe I'm telling you about this one, though.

just take it and have it shortened/re-balanced
