aluminum driveshaft

When I first installed mine, I thought it was useless even with 4.10 gears. I took it back off for about 6 years. I just put it back on and I don't have the loud roaring I had before when I was over 100MPH. I'm glad I put it back on.

The Mustang aluminum shafts are strong. The aluminum is thick...(they are not like the cheap aluminum shafts that GM puts on their Silverados, Avalanches etc....those are paper thin and twist at the rear yoke. I sell them out as soon as I get them in.)
 
are these pretty much useless on a stock daily driver?

Far from useless. I'd say you don't need one on a vehicle with stock gearing but if you change the rear ring & pinion for a higher ratio version (e.g 3.73, 4.10), I'd consider a lighter aluminium driveshaft almost essential if you're likely to travel at anywhere near 100mph or above (track only of course).
 
unless you can get it on the cheep i would think that there are better things that 250 would buy for a stock DD. Im thinking like LCA's or underdrives, something like that.
 
I think it is a good upgrade if you plan on doing gears and what not. But if you are remaining stock then I would say find a better place to spend your money.

when I got my 373s in it helped a whole lot with vibration.
 
1990Coupe...it might cure your vibrations, but try clocking the driveshaft first.

Simply unbolt it turn in 1/4 turn at a time and see if if smoothes the vibrations. Sometimes when they are bolted into the same spot it affects them.
 
i have a 4.10 rear end that i just dropped so that i can sandblast underneath and planned on trading with a guy locally for a 3.55. my current setup is cobra upper and lower intake that is mildly ported.i have thought about maybe putting in a cam down the road.i plan on keeping my ac but i would like to add a few more horses to it.the driveshaft thing is probably something i don't need but i am still in the evolving stage with this car.it will be a cobra clone with all the parts that i have collected thus far.i could get the horsepower bug and want to throw a vortech supercharger amongst other things down the road.
 
The shaft has no negatives to it... your shedding 3 or 4 lbs, reducing rotational mass and improving strength at a weak point in a car so I say it's worth the money and the 15 minutes to bolt it up... what's a sad is I remember when these shafts were in summit for $169.95 lol
