i bought a nice used set of aluminum factory slots for my 73 ragtop. they are highly polished and i was wondering if there is anything that can done to keep them that way besides elbow grease...........

can they be clear coated??? if so, can i just use a rattle-can or take them to a painter and get it baked on???

what about iridite or anodize? there is a black paint strip on them, but i suppose i could repaint that on afterwards

I'd be afraid the powder coating would become cloudy, like the clear anodizing does. Once they become cloudy, they can't be polished.

Polishing by hand does suck, but Mothers has a new foam ball product designed to make easy work of polishing wheels. Apparently it mounts to an electric drill and can supposedly polish a wheel in a couple minutes (probably less if you do it semi-regularly).j Check Mothers website.

If you want a set of wheels that'll look like crap in a few years, go ahead and clear coat them. If you want some that'll look as good 20 years from now, use elbow grease and either SOS or Brillo pads.
