Hey guys, I'm new to the scene here on StangNet. I just recently won a 92' GT Hatch from an abandoned car auction. Once I got keys made for the doors and replaced the ignition cylinder we tried to fire her up.
Things that work:
- All the lights, headlights, rear, hazards, left and right blinkers front and back
- Fuel gauge, fuel pump, power windows
- The engine will spin but won't start. Initially I thought the issue was something with the fuel pump. The relay was replaced recently but before replacing I troubleshot the fuel pump and associated components. After dropping the tank I tested the red and black terminals at the fuel pump ,and was only getting around 3v.
- I used a battery booster and put 12v to the pump directly, worked like a champ. Checked the filter, good to go. I reconnected the pump to the fuel line to see if fuel would make it to the front end and applied 12v, got gas up the fuel gauge (even removed the fuel gauge to verify flow). Satisfactory.
- After reassembling the tank and pump, I mimicked the same actions on the front end, applying 12v at the relay port. The line was primed all the way to the injectors (and again got visual confirmation at the gauge, but the injectors did not pulse.) With the system all assembled and lined up, we sprayed starter fluid directly into the intake line and the engine turns over but won't stay running (runs for like a second or two). I'm led to believe that the issue is not with the fuel line at all but something electrical. Not sure if its the ECM, or something else. I'm also unsure of the low voltage at the pump terminals, 3v on a 12v battery (new battery). After installing the new relay heard clicking on the relay and priming, but again no injector pulse.
- Bottom line, engine won't turn over without fluid and won't stay running. NEED YOUR EXPERTISE!
