Am i missing a nut?

I took off the rotors on my 89LX and seem to be missing the "adjuster nut" referenced in my Chilton manual. I had the bearing, washer, and nut retainer, but nothing else.

Are the manuals accurate?

well the nut holds everything on....thats why the axle is threaded

without it it wont drive...and if it does

Well i figured something was up, but not sure because my Camaro did not have a "Adjusting Nut" but it did have the castle nut and that was all. ON my LX it has the castle nut, but it doesnt have the other solid nut that the chilton and autozone manual reference.


FYI the castle nut is threaded too

Actually it should be a solid flat nut and a pressed steel cap that is castle like features and fits over the nut.

When I read the title, I thought your problems were so much worse.

Don hit the nail on the head from what I recall (but I can never keep straight what car has what nut-capturing method). You absolutely DO want some means of keeping the nut from being able to back out.

Yea it looked pretty grim early on huh?

Well it was really greasy, and its entirely possible that the flat nut just came off with the castle cover. I will double check. Thanks all!

The adjusting nut IS the castle nut.

You pull the cotter pin, take off the castle retainer and take the nut off and then the washer and all you have left are the bearings.

Well Mustang5L5 the mystery was that i only saw the castle retainer and not the nut... but it was all greasy and im sure i took them both off at the same time.
