Am I out of gas?

My car has been fine the last few days, problems have been solved recently after finishing the 4 to 8 swap.

now, out of the nowwhere my fuel pump is not comming on...would it not prime if I'm out of gas? My guage says I'm very close to E (and I'm parked on a hill)

Just wondering If I should be trouble shooting my wiring again, or if I'm simply out of gas.

so my question: Would I not hear my fuel pump if I'm out of gas???

Put some gas in it and find out.

did you upgrade your pump when you did your swap? My car is also a 4 to 8 conv, i just put in a new 190 lph, and i also has to put in a new tank, cause there is a little channel inside the tank that the fuel pump sits in and it can come loose possibily shorting out the pump. If you had the original in there mabye it was just time, or as 5 oh stated, put in some gas first and find out

I have a 255 holly
....no one knows if it I wouldn't hear it if I didnt have gas?

you would definatley hear it pump initally when you turn the ignition on, and you can usually hear the hum while the car is running. If you heard it before and now you dont anymore then mabye its not working. even if you diddnt have gas i would think you would hear it, at least till it went out from being dry

k, I got it started, thought the fuel pump was quiet enough I never heard it come on this time...I drove to the gas station to get gas and it slowly died as I was driving...

I tried to restart it, and once of the few times it didn't even crank which is wired.
...I played with two wires (I had modified before and then I had put them back to the stock set up) so I pushed on those connectors to make sure they were connecting good, and then it started again...

I made it to the gas station, got gas; and then it wouldn't start again...so I push again on the connectors and it was fine. .but the pump is allot quieter than it was which is wierd isn't it?

when I got home I shut the car off, and tried to restart it, it started but stalled, and again and stalled. and again, I heard the pump this time at the normal sound I've heard it at.

I don't know if it's these wire connectors are really the issue...

It certainly sounds as if they are. Can you provide us with the location and color of these wires....

I initially had no fuel pump power, so I did this change that you see in this picture
I beleive this allows the fuel pump power to skip the engine harness entirely...

however; later I found teh real problem was that the power wire for hte eec relay circuit caused no power to most systems in the car and I fixed that..so later I put the wires back to the stock version on the fuel pump thinking it would have worked if this circuit had power upfront...and since changing it back it worked fine the stock way.

since I have a 255 lph, do I need to change my fuel pressure regulator?
(i did the 255 since I hope to supercharge this car next year)

you dont NEED one because the stock one will keep the fuel pressure at 35(?) psi i think. you'll need to get a new one when you're gonna need to adjust the pressure.

yup, its fine now
I found that wire connectors I used sucked, so I'm going to solder them to prevent it from happening again.

k, so thinking the connectors was the problem, we twisted the wires together back the way we had them when we first finished the swap...only so I could drive it today.

later, we soldered the wires together back to the stock method...and guess what...same problem.

so it wasn't the connectors...

I had to drop the car off to a tranny shop for a tranny rebuild tonight so we (my boyfriend and I) decided to leave it the modified way so it would be relabile to start it.

...guess I'll need to figure out what's going on later by reviewing the wiring diagrams and see what's being bypassed when we splice it using the chassis wiring. I wish it stayed working the stock way because the modified way I think the pump runs longer or more often than it should and I don't like it
