You know what’s funny after talking about military it’s got me thinking about a unique comparison. There are 2 American muscles in this world, one that dominates the sky and one that dominates the road.

In World War II the P-51 Mustang (American Muscle of the Sky) was the air superior fighter and could power its way thru almost any situation with its V-12 Merlin.

On the road the Ford mustang (the all American Muscle car) is designed to out perform most rivals and power its way to wins at the track with its American V-8. Just like the P-51, when people see a Ford mustang drive by or sitting at a car show they are struck by its beauty, its sound, its power and can’t help but think what it would be like to own, drive or even take a ride in this American power machine we call the mustang.

================================================== ========
Now lets take another look.

America of the Sky Vs. Imports of the Sky.

The P-51 Mustang had the power and the weight; the Japanese zero had the maneuverability and was lighter. The P-51 could overpower the Zero and win most dogfights.

Now lets look at American muscle of the Road Vs. Imports of the Road.

Just like the P-51, the Ford mustang has the power; the Japanese imports have the maneuverability. The Ford mustang can over power most imports and win most drag races.

Nothing like the sound of a 2 stage supercharged V-12 merlin makeing over 1,300hp and 2,218 hp in military mode.

Nothin like the sound of a Ford mustang with a supercharge making over 600 HP.

The legends together.

It’s kind of funny when you think about it.

In the end all I have to say is American muscle all the way, I’m prod to be an American and I'm prod to drive a car that represents this country. Just like America, the Ford mustang stands for Freedom, Power and the Ability to Dominate.

:flag: Have you seen the new F-35 raptor? It will be the first super sonic fighter jet that can take off vertically. It is a joint project with USA and some countries from Europe, but this fighter will be used by many different countries. Can you say that this will be the ultimate jet fighter for years to come, and no other jet fighter can match the F-35's performance. Our tax payer money at its best to protect our allies and USA. :flag:

I have seen a few shows on the F-35, looks to be an awesome aircraft. I saw the F-22 fly at the Road Island airshow last year and that is one heck of a plane. Still my favorite is the F-18 E super hornet.

Yeah the F-22 Raptor was made with stealth in mind for a fighter plane.

I'm still upset about The U.S. x-ing the F-14A Tomcat. That by far was the most technological fighter at it's time, and still kicked the ass of many F-18's due largly to the fact of the Tomcat being able to reach the sound barrier much quicker than the Hornet. I was talking to one of my Instructors(who was an air boss in the navy) ans he said sometimes it would take the Hornet 2 or 3 passes to hit the sound barrier. Not all the time, but pending on payload and other reasons. By far the Tomcat is one of the coolest jets (and until they nixed it I was going to go to school to fly them) of all time.

BTW Great thread by the way!

also...

ever notice that a number of Ford performance vehicles are named after WWII fighters

P-51 = Mustang (duh)
P-38 = F-150 Lightning
P-47 = Fairlane Thunderbolt
P-39 = AC Cobra (OK, that one's a bit of a reach :) )

That is true and originally the Ford mustang was going to have the P-51 as the symbol instead of the horse.
