An example of why selling a car is so difficult...

1991notchbackLX I think your fine with what you are asking. I'm suprised with the other member, not a cool way to respond but you handled it well. I know one thing though after my resto project my fox better be worth $12-15K or more :rlaugh:..I'm doing it for the love of it, no really . I hope I can atleast get a decent value for agreed value insurance after it's done though

I knew a kid in NJ who had the single cleanest fox I have ever laid eyes on. Reef Blue notch, black interior, minor bolt ons, car ran 12.7 @ 105 and you could eat off the undercarriage. Best fox example I have ever seen, and it ran insane times at the track...

Car sold for around $12K I believe, but I stress this was the CLEANEST fox body I have ever seen.

Thanks! We all do this for the love of the cars, and I think the wisest of us know what to expect as far as pricing goes and a return on your investment. Losing money on a sale is one thing, and is to be expected, but being flat out insulted is another. I love how in his PMs my car not having air conditioning automatically shaved $3,000 off my asking price in his mind. Go figure.

Oh gosh. In all seriousness, I don't want to offend you bro, because you're good peoples, but I think the guy has a point. Is your car worth more than an equivalent mileage stock '03 Cobra? My brother just bought one for $12,800. I don't think I could pay more for a GT with a Cobra drivetrain, even though you have a few mods that make the GT a more interesting car to a gear-head.

FWIW, when I decided to mod my fox-body to hell and back, I first decided that I had no intention of ever selling it. No matter how long or how much money it takes, in the end, it will be worth it to me, because I plan to personally literally drive the value out of the money I put into it. I would honestly be embarrassed to tell you how much money I've put into my car, but if you look at my build thread, you'd probably be able to guess. Similar combos have sold for over $20k. Would mine? Likely not in these economic times. Would I be willing to let it go for what it's worth? Hell no! So, that means keeping it is most logical.

Also, it explains entirely why my '97 Corvette is bone-stock. I don't intend to lose any more money than I absolutely have to in that car, and I don't plan to keep it long enough to reap the benefit of aftermarket modifications.

Okay, so you'd trade your turbo hatch for a ragged out 7up vert that looks like it went through hurricane katrina and a plain jane notch on dirty turbines? What exactly is his point that you and him are seeing eye to eye on? His point was to attempt to "pull the wool over my eyes" with a BS offer that has no merit and offers nothing even approaching the bare mininum value of my car? Please explain. I don't want to get drawn into an argument with you, because I honestly like you and appreciate what you do for our country while I sleep in my comfortable house, but I just don't see where you're coming from on this one.

So how badly was this '03 Cobra previously totalled before your brother picked it up for $12,800?

'03-'04 Cobra's are still fetching anywhere between $25,000-$30,000 here?

Friend of mine bought a salvaged one for $14k....back half came from a V6.

Well, he's not a friend just an idiot I know

a nice cobra goes for 18-25k here

a 12k cobra is probably a junkyard masterpiece

I think a 99GT is a 5-6k car, and with a $9k drivetrain, regardless of the other modifications, it isn't worth $15k. Especially, considering what you can buy a similar mileage '03 Cobra for. That was his point, and the only thing I see eye to eye with him on. However, I absolutely agree that his offer is a low-ball bull**** trade for your car.

I knew I was going to offend you, and I apologize. Sometimes I can't keep my mouth shut.

And no, I've already established in this thread that I would not willingly sell or trade my turbo hatch for anything short of a ridiculous offer in my favor. I wouldn't even take the investment that I already have in the car.

Chris

And IMO that GT is worth more to a racer than an 03-04 because it's geared more towards the track. Depends onthe buyer, if you want a termi, buy a termi, don't bitch about how you could get one cheaper (directed at whoever the OP was pm'ing).

Oh and IRS is teh ghey!

Well what I should have said was STOCK IRS is teh gay, when used for drag racing. Obviously road courses or auto X isn't bad.

But that was more typing than I wanted to do :D

I'm sorry but based on my years of Mustang buying/selling and just researching them. I don't think you know what your talking about. Idk if your buying cars that have 150k on them, poor mods, bad paint, prior salvage, or what but you can not get a decent Cobra or GT for either of those prices. Yeah i guess if you wanted a piece of junk you could. High mileage, beat on, poorly modded, etc. But if you want a nice clean car with average or low mileage, get out.

In order for his car(Orig. guy posting here) to sell. He'll have to find what a '03-04 Cobra with similar mileage, modifications, and condition sells for. Then mark it down a bit seeing as the car is older and that it is really only a GT. But for the right guy, someone who wants the power of a Cobra but doesn't really care about it being a GT, its PERFECT. If its cheaper then a Cobra as well, it'll get the buyer to jump on the deal. Simple.

My brother just bought one for $12,800.
