I searched for ever and found some answers but not all.

I have a 2002 5 speed with T-3650 Im 99.9% sure the old owner put a spec clutch in here b/c it drives like crap just like my old spec i had on the 5.0


So im a going to with the ford racing 03-04 cobra clutch. What do I need?

SHould i change the flywheel?

Car is basically stock and will be used a DD and probably never raced, just want a smooth engaging clutch and it seems my best luck with come from the cobra clutch.

thanks for the help, How many hours should I let the shop charge me for this, I know when I change my own clutch it takes 2 weeks and a trip to the chiropractor.

Is 5 hours reasonable?

this isnt a t5 clutch swap, a t5 is like 65lbs, a 3650 is prolly 110lbs, and there are a couple bolts and nuts that are HARD to get to.. if they do it all in 5 hours they should be awarded something, but can prolly be done lol it took me and a buddy 12 hours to put a clutch in his ls1 camaro, and the layout is damn close.

as far as the clutch goes, you can machine your fly, or get an aluminum, yours is already 11" so you will be fine..

Great, if its been machined once can they do it?

Thanks for the heads up on the wieght i was unaware of that, would have been trouble when that thing fell on my chest..
I really have no intention of doing this myself, If i had a lift i would not hesitate.

A Mustang clutch job is a walk in the park for any transmission shop compared to most of the cars they see now with transverse mounted transaxles that you have to drop the the whole front cradle to get to. They'll be in and out of there in no time. Now, if you're doing it yourself in your driveway, then all bets are off.

My clutch job ran me $550 parts & labor a couple of years ago. I think the clutch kit was $200 of that so figure $350 for labor... right around 5 hours if labor was $65~$75 and hour. That sounds about right.

My clutch job the year before last was $1000+ and it was done at Dimension Ford. They suck and I will never take my car there again but I digress... The flywheel can be resurfaced one time.

found a guy to do it for 300 bucks, he says i can resuface the flywheel again but i should just probably buy a new one right?

Im nervous about going with an alum one b/c its my dd and it will be putting tons of miles on it.

If it's your daily driver and you're planning on lots of miles, don't worry about it then and just either resurface the flywheel if it's still in spec or get a stock steel replacement. An aluminum flywheel sounds good for performance but less rotating mass also means less rotating inertia and higher revs and more clutch slipping to get the car moving from a stop.

no.. an aluminum flywheel works great on a dd 4.6 it feels smoother to me as well
