I know everyone recomends 4.10's with the aod, but ive been instructed to go with 3.73's so i don't quote "run out of motor" in the end of the 1/4mile and in those 80mph+ highway races (shhhhhh) J/k!
Also i found some 3.90's which would be a good alternative to both. cause its a median. I also one day my pop in a 5spd....so i need to keep that in consideration..........Ive searched and used gear calculators and the rpms arent much different. but i need my mods to be cooperative with one another.....
my ultimate goals with the aod are H/C/I, then 5spd swap, then slap a strong standard in their...what way i feal like the car keeps getting faster!!!!!!!!so i need a gear that goes with that....

if you're going to swap to a stick, i'd suggest 3:73's if you won't see much highway at all, or 3:55's as a good middle of the road gear.
since you're AOD now, i'd say 3:73 are a safe bet, still up the performance now, but if you ever went to a 5sp, anything higher wouldn't work so well.

I had the 373's an they were a nice street gear, just don't drive in the rain with a shift kit. I wanted 390s but found a complete 8.8 with 410's installed for 250 so i got that for less than the cost of just a gear install.

Go 4.10 especially since you're planning a 5sp swap with h/c/i.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
unless this car will never see the highway, 3:73's are the max you should go with a 5 speed. my car is almost stock, and with 3:73's its at 2500 on the highway, and screams through gears in town....... which is what i wanted though
if i were ever to add a lot of power, i can't see them being practical at all....

you still havent said what happens when you get on the gas? does the car take off like crazy with tons of wheel spin? or does it just rev? it might not have anything to do with your gearing........

so what exactly are your plans for this car? 5spd for sure? or just a thought?
i have had 3:73's for only a couple months now, with minor mods and it's OK as a DD. i don't think they're all they're hyped up to be. i think i would have rather spent the $$$ on adding some HP, personally. also, when i finally get around to my hci swap, i have a feeling they'll be too much gear for my liking.

Your obviously a bit misinformed and inexperienced I'm near 400rwhp on motor and I run 4.30's. No problems, cruise between 2300-2700 on the highway With a good h/c/i, his 4.10's will be perfect. I had 3.73's and they weren't ideal for my combo, so I had to switch to what was needed.

I like 4.10s with an aod or a 5 speed. The grunt of the 4.10s feel great on a street car. I doubt you will be taching 5500-6000 stoplight to stoplight so you shouldnt run out of motor!! My coupe with the aod, trans go kit , 3000 stall , 4.10s , and drag radials is fun as hell on the street. Holeshoting 5 speeds never gets old!!

My aod has 3.73s. Leroy93lx's car feels much better with the 4.10's.

Thats just bad information! I daily drove my 5spd GT with 4.10s and it only had cam and an intake and it was fine....on the street AND the track. I have daily driven my LX with 4.30s and a 5spd and still drive it on the street all the time even though it doesnt go back and forth to work anymore. You gear the car for what the engine needs.....not because someone on the web said you cant run anything more than 3.73 on the street!!

It's not a discussion of what will work well with an AOD. They're talking about how well 4.10s work in a T5.

well this is a very biased thing to say. How often do you drive your car on the highway? Is this your DD? Also how fast are you going when you are taching 2700...right at 70mph!! HAHA thats ridiculous! I understand steep gears are fun....but you have to go slow as hell on the highway. If i had to cruise at 70 on the highway all the time i'd pull my hair out! It would take you forever to get anywhere far...and infact 70mph doesn't even keep up with traffic on most large highways.

What happens if you want to cruise at 85? You'll be turning over 3100 rpm. Hows the gas mileage at that point...my guess is somewhere under 18?!

For a 5 speed street car...you dont need anything higher than 3.73's. 75mph is right at 2500...and 85 is right around 2700. I still pull 25mpg with these gears and i ALWAYS cruise at 80!

Thats odd....i dont have any issues keeping up with traffic on the interstate or any other road...with 4.30s. last time i went on a road trip with another stang my car (with a 331, 30lb injectors, and 4.30s) got better fuel economy than the other stang that had 3.55's and a much milder set up.....and we were cruising nearly the same speed the whole time (except when we'd play around then he was going slower).

Saying a general statement like a 5spd car doesnt need anything more than 3.73 is just not true. If the set up warrants more gear because of increased rpm capabilities than wouldnt the car benefit from them from a performance standpoint? I Think most people are willing to give up a few mpg for better performance....otherwise they wouldnt be modding their cars or driving Mustangs.

You can keep your 3.73's....

I like how everyone gets offended when someone starts talking about which gears! haha. I would go 4.10's with auto or a 5-speed. I have 3.73's in my car and realy wish i would have went with 4.10's or 4.30's.

Also with a H/C/I auto or 5-speed car you will still have plenty of gear left at the end of the track. You gotta remember the rpm difference between the two gears is only a couple hundred rpm's.

Buy the gear for your combo if you want to go fast...

There is no answer to this. I did 3.73s, have 4.10s waiting to go in and if need be I would jump to 4.30s in a heartbeat!
