Another eBay scam

This guy (or perhaps it's a group) has been doing this for at least a year using different eBay accounts. He usually has about 4 cars for "sale" at a time, and they're always high-dollar classic cars for absurdly low prices. Apparently he steals eBay accounts from users through a phishing scam, then posts items for sale using their accounts to take advantage of their good feedback history. I emailed him once to see what was up and he offered to end the auction and sell me the car right then if I would pay by Western Union wire transfer to a location in Italy. I've reported him to eBay half a dozen times, but there's not much they can do except to shut down his auctions and notify the owner of the stolen account to change his password. Frankly I just got tired of reporting him every few days.

You can find this same money scam on ebay everyday by doing a search for kubota and find a listing that is under $8k, no bids and has a "pre-approved bidders" list.

Ebay is stupid to allow this as most all of the pre-approved bidders auctions are fake, money scams....

I notified the account holder that someone was using his account. He replied saying that he was horrified, "I sell jewlery"! He didn't have a clue. He has contacted EBay. I agree, Ebay should take more responsibility for screening the auctions.

I understand. I've quit reporting the almost daily phishing emails I get. Ebay needs to do more to stop this. They say that they can do nothing more than notify the account holder and close the auction. But it seems to me that it would be simple for Ebay to prevent someone with a foreign IP address from posting to auto auctions using a US account holder ID.

Don't bother sending a suggestion like this to ebay, because it will never reach anyone who is capable of understanding it. Most emails get automated response.
