Well, after being absent from this site and my car for a few months (in process of selling, then decided to keep...again) im back with another question. It invloves a rear end gear. Right now my car (95GT) has a stock motor with an AODE and a 3.73 gear. Ive almost got my 347 done and should be goin in soon, and with more power, im going to upgrade the rear end to 31spline. Since the car has the auto and slow, im goin for a lower gear. I see a lot of ppl say the 4.10 is perfect for an auto, but im considering a 4.30 gear. Do you think this is too steep for a 347/auto? Keep in mind the car is NOT a daily driver, and is only going to be driven on weekends/nice days etc. Sorry thtas so long, but whatever you guys think, good or bad, let me know.

Certainly not at too steep. It also depends on your combo. 4.30 is perfect for my 5 speed car for my combo actually.

Whats the combo? Fwiw, the highway rpm difference in overdrive betwen a 4.10 and a 4.30 is LESS than 150 rpm's.

347stroker and the heads i plan to get are AFR185 and intake is either Eldebrock RPMII or maybe try the new BBK intake, 1.7rr, 75mmtb,30#injectors, 76mm MAF, pulleys(BBK). THe current exhaust is stock manifolds, bbk O/R X with Flowmasters, but im gonna be moving to MAC longtubs, prochamber and dumps once i get the motor in. hope that helps

Nice combination! What cam are you gonna use? I'd stick with the rpm II manifold. You will need to open up the inlet for the 75mm tb, the opening on the rpm II is only 70mm. I'd do 1.6 rockers and a custom cam with matching valve springs.

I assume you're doing a good converter as well? I don't think you can go wrong with either gear based on what i'm seeing. Talk with a custom cam grinder and follow what they say but either gear will be perfect in my eyes but nothing less than 4.10.

i knew i was forgetting something....the cam is a Comp Cam, just off the self, nothing custom ground, i forgot the specs on it, but my dad helped me pick it out, he is pretty knowledgable about that stuff....as for the converter, i havent gotten one yet, i was going to, but i EVENTUALLY wanted to switch over to a manual, and i didnt want to invest too much in the auto, but it would prob be worth getting one since it would take a while for the trans swap
