Roush another question about this coupe

The white DP wheels on your coupe are real.

Actually, some of the SSC's came with that exact wheel with the polished lip. I can't remember the last bumper number SSC I saw with them that came factory but some SSC's did come with the polished lip.

You could also buy the all white DP wheel or the wheel you have above direct from Saleen Performance Parts. You could have it either way for a short time. That was late 89 early 90. I remember seeing piles of them with the polished lip. I actually bought a set of the polished lip wheels for a friend at the time. He had turned two of his basketweave wheels into tacos and wanted the DP wheel so I picked up a set for him.

Bottlefed, if you pull one of the wheels the spokes will be hollow. The updated DP5 that came available later has a single "rib" right down the center of the back of the spoke. They did that because of the cracking that occurs just from age or as Davidj pointed out the spokes stick out which makes them un curb friendly.

The center caps without the "Saleen" S were available for years afterwards. I'm sure the guy pulled the d p logo off the center of the black cap and applied the late 80's mesh logo for looks. I don't mind it myself. You can pick up those new from Performance Autosport.

My wheel or (88foxsaleen)? I was looking at my wheel and the grey set and there is still I think some differences in the two. My polished lip looks smaller, and also my center cap is different besides the sticker. If I call saleen would they tell me what wheels came on it stock?

88foxsaleen had the ARE version which were different than the DPs in the face and cap. The smooth spoke GT Sport AREs were also 16x7 while the Saleen DPs are 16x8.

I guess too... keep in mind these were wheel manfactures that would offer whatever to the public. So, there's probably 4 lug DPs, 5 lug AREs and a variety of offsets out there. I had a second gen SHO and knew of one that had white DPs.

Keep this in mind when you go hunting for 5-star AREs. So, talk to Mark at PAS, Greg at SLS, and ask around the Saleen owners and part keepers/ hunters to see if they have a Saleen spec set ready for you. Look at Ebay, but as you know... try that last.

Saleen, Inc/ Team Saleen should at least have the wheel color on file. As for the style... that could probably be hit or miss. They don't know what late '88s had the 5-stars... and I don't recall if they know, for example which '89s-'91s had the mesh. For some reason I want to say they can, but maybe I hit my head. Send Patti an email or call her up. Nice lady doesn't hurt to ask. I've had nothing but great success with my inquires. :nice:

I found a set already but I wasn't going to buy them, but after what you guys are saying I may just see what he wants for them, I am getting some other 89 saleen parts from him and going to spend over 1K for some parts that you cant find anywhere that I need from being worn or damaged in the accident. That is the same guy I got my blank engine tag from.

Marcus is correct. Some DP's came with the polished lip. I've only seen a rare few though. I actually saw some on an SSC at the the MCA anniversary show a couple of years ago in Birmingham. Charlie might remember the car and what number it was. It was parked in the SCOA Corral and is in some of the picks of all of us together.
The guy that owned it said he was the original owner and it came that way.
Another oddity from saleen I guess.
