I already have a pair of nitto's (255/40/17) for my car. A friend has pointed me in the direction of some 255/50/17. Great price and I would probably put them on the rear and the 255/40 in the front. Not sure if they would look right of fit right. Anyone with experience. I know the 50's would be taller hence putting them on the back. I have sportlines and I don't want to lift the rear too much (or at all) if I can help it. Thanks for any info.

oh and these are going on factory bullitt rims on my fox for the 5lug conversion.

I would stay with a 40 series tire if you don't want to increase ride height.

I dont htink they would fit or look good at all. Ive seen that size tire before, they used to put them on the Impala SS back in the 90's. Its a big beast, heres some specs for ya.

255/40/17----25" tall

255/50/17----27" tall

Thats quite a difference, Imho, stick with the 40's.

Plus, your speedometer will be off because of the taller tire......

I would do 45's. I mount up 40's a lot, mostly on imports but i also see the same on mustangs.... well not only will u have a smoother ride on 45's, but i see a lot of cracked rims on 40's, the impacts a lot harder on bumps

IMO, 45's are not that much of a difference over 40's.

Theres not much of a difference between a 275 and a 285 tire either. The only difference is that a 285 will rub on a mustang, and a 275 will fit. Just like a 45 will have more comfort and cushion 40 because there is a lot more airspace in it

I already have 1 pair of 40's so I will be running atleast that set. For the front I might run a 245/45/17. depending on the price I get them for. I have been piecing this whole thing (5lug) for a year now and I am ready to see the end product. 4 rotors and 2 tires are basically standing in the way. being on a budget sucks

just to give u a reference. most people go 245/45/17 on front and 275/40/17 out back thats would keep both front and back aroud the stock height. some people have got the 275's to fit w/o much modding if the back spacing is correct.

Explain how having 45's up front and 40's out back will keep the same ride height when most cars come factory with the same series tires all the way around.
I would go 245/40/17 up front and 275/40/17 on the rears. Stick with the 40's, like you have now and enjoy the better handling.

the middle # is the aspect ratio of the first #.

So to calculate overall height of any tire - you convert the section width to inches by dividing it by 25.4 mm/in. Then you multiply that number by the aspect ratio to get sidewall height. 2X the sidewall height plus the wheel diameter gives you the height of the tire.

Stock Stang - 225/55/16 --- ((225/25.4) X .55 X 2) + 16= 25.75" tall

245/45/17 ((245/25.4) X .45 X 2) + 17= 25.68" diameter

275/40/17 ((275/25.4) X .40 X 2) + 17= 25.66" diameter


heres the tire sizes u recommened

245/40/17 ((245/25.4) X .40 X 2) + 17= 24.71" diameter

275/40/17 ((275/25.4) X .40 X 2) + 17= 25.66" diameter

thats means the front will be almost 1" shorter then the rears.

now u are schooled in tires LOL J/P man

Since everyones recommending 40 series just thought i should let u know i had an integra, rsx, and '02 mustang come into my work today with cracked rims.... all had 40 series. I never see that problem with 45 series

people need to learn to stop hitting potholes at 65 mph and stop driving like morons. Probably all female driven cars even though their better halves brought the cars in. I had 40's on my civic without a single issue but then again I never went offroading in it either.

I will more than likely go with a 245/40 up front and keep the 255/40's out back (already have the 255's). Problem with a 275 is my rims are factory bullits and are only 8 inches wide which creates a problem of not all the foot print will sit on the ground evenly. If I had 9's in the back then I would go 275's and put my 255's in the front. But, no one wants to trade an 8" rim for a 9" or even 10" rim. Already asked. oh well. Thanks again for all the help.
