Columbus, Oh
Apparently the tranny bearing is going out in my 98 gt (t-45). For over a year now it's been whining rather loudly. I had my mechanic diagnose the problem and, again, he says it's the bearing going out. My question... how much would I pay to have this rebuilt and how long should I expect the process to take. The Ford swap meet here in Columbus is coming up in a couple of weeks, so would I be better off just buying a good used one. Thanks for any suggestions.

Just drive the SOB until it breaks. If it shifts with out a problem, your fine. The mechanic is probably trying to jew you for your money.:rlaugh:

+1. If it aint broke, don't fix it. When the time comes to get a new one I've heard Timken is a good name. I put a new tranny in my 97 4V and had to put in an advance autoparts TOB AND IT'S WHINING ALREADY, 250 MILES LATER!!!

have you checked the tranny fluid level?

1st thing I'd do is drain and refill the trans wth some fresh Mercon III and see if the noise goes away.
