The best answer for buying a tuner is to find out what the reputable dynotuner near you uses, and buy whichever one he supports, that way when you get into more mods, and want to have it dynotuned, you don't have to rebuy the equipment. That is the biggest deciding factor in buying a tuner to me, the differences between the 2 are minor enough that it doesn't matter which you buy to begin with, it's all about saving money in the future.

All of my local tuners use SCT, ProDyno, Fastlane, Haywood, etc. So there was really no thought involved. If I wanted a dynotune from one of these guys, I had to get the SCT.

I wouldnt recommend any hand held tuners again. I had an sct then sold it, and i got a dyno tune. I gained 16 RWHP and 48 FTLBS of torque from a dyno tune! Plus they give you a tuner with a custom tune not a generic one. Just my 2 cents.

Ummmmmmm, I have an SCT SF3/X3, and when I go to the dyno, I will just hand my handheld to the tuner, which he uses to transfer the tune from his computer to program my car. I bought it with a generic tune in it, have a mail order tune right now, and when it comes time to dynotune, I will use the same exact tuner, and they will load the custom tune on MY TUNER. They don't "give" you a tuner with a custom tune, you are buying another tuner so that they can load the custom tune on it. If you already buy the compatible tuner that they use, even with mail order tunes on it, you never have to buy another one.

Yes i am running nitrous but that gain was N/A. My baseline was 222 rwhp and 232 ftlbs of torque. Then he tuned it to 238 rwhp and 278 ftlbs of torque. And i had a huge exhaust leak. Well here in houston when you get a dyno tune, they hand you a hand held tuner WITH the custom tune that he did on you car loaded to your hand held tuner, or like what i got a switch to switch between tunes when i want w/o tuning off the car. :nice:

Thanks for the explanation. :nice:

No problem. I also forgot to add that im an automatic. I sold my hand held tuner because since i am running nitrous i need to change tunes often between my N/A tune and nitrous tune and didnt want to turn the car off load the tune i want then go... It just took to long. But my "generic" tune compared to my dyno tune was a night and day difference. The custom tune tapped into power that the generic mail order tune didnt. :)

hey man, of you dont mind my asking, where did you get your car tuned? im looking to get at dyno tune and im in the houston area. and if you dont mind my asking how much did they charge for the tune/tuner?

I went to Houston performance and they charged me $550. Rip off, wasnt too happy with the tune, chris.... doesnt seem to know what he is doing. He gives me the impression that he is oblivious. I was not happy with them and will change to PSI. They are nitrous specialist so it would benifit me, and Patrick knows what he is doing.

This guy is absolutely braindead! :notnice:
SCT 9100, Xcal, Xcal2 and Xcal3 can ALL be loaded with Custom dyno tunes.

The same nutcase that thinks that you're supposed to get larger injectors when you have a wet shot of nitrous.:lol:

Please tell us oh brilliant GTRACER88, What did Steve give you to hold your tune in? Was it a handheld or a chip?

so you had an SCT tuner and sold it then you got a dyno tune...........

so did you get a chip or how did you flash the dyno tune in the PCM?

ohhh so maybe i get it now, buy an sct and sell it. go get a dyno tune that comes with another tuner, prolly sct. well thats just plain stupid as hell.
why not take your sct tuner to your shop and have them do a dyno tune and just put the tune on your tuner.
